A friend is getting a total new HVAC system. The company doing the work said that Sumter county building code requires a new slab for the a/c unit.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I have lived in Florida for over 60 years, and have never heard of this. However, I realize building codes change from time to time.

My house is coming up on 13 years old, so a new a/c unit will be required sooner than I'd like. I am trying to be prepared with the proper info.

Replaced my 12 year old system this summer and they did put in a new slab...said required by code. Chuck Farrell did the install.

Slab or Pad for the exterior unit?

Yep, it's required. Comes all prepared, no pouring cement or cement forms. They do it the easy way. If you have gas, the gas company has a rebate, I think it's $500. The a/c dealer should handle all the paperwork.

You can always call the Sumter county building department and get the official answer, it may depend on the age/size of the existing pad.
