The Villages Regional Hospital has plans to build a satellite emergency department south of Brownwood. The location is directly across Rt. 44 from the bronze cattle.
Meggison Rd will be extended. It will run southward, on the east side of the Turnpike, all the way to Morse Blvd/Warm Springs Ave (formerly CR 468).
It appears that the facility will be golf cart accessible, coming north from the villages of Southern Oaks. Of course, a golf cart bridge will be built over 44 a little east of this facility. I can't see how easy it will be to cross over from Brownwood on that bridge and head to the facility.

will not make a big diffrence. Until TVRH hospital and the emergency room decides to take direct admits from The Villages Health the disconnect that causes patient waits and dissatisfaction will remain.

Exciting times. I understand it will be a 16 bed ER. Thinking it arrivals will be ambulances and cars, as it will not be an urgent care facility, but you are right about the golf cart access, too.

In a meeting today, I learned that the facility is a joint venture with Shands. Opening is planned for December 2019.

So who do they accept direct admits from around here? Just curious since the Hospital has no affiliation with The Villages aside from renting the land.

I would be interested to learn more about this "arrangement".
Shands is a specialty/teaching hospital. All the specialists are on campus in Gainseville. There is no connection between Shands and TVRH.
A joint venture via a remote emergency room has no apparent logic what so ever.

Shands has doctors already seeing patients at UFHealth in Summerfield. My husband and several neighbors see orthopedic doctors for pain management.

Some time ago the company that owns TV Hospital and the Leesburg Hospital (Central Florida Health) said the have purchased land in Brownwood area where they were going to put up an ER and possibly a hospital.

Wonder if United Health the Villages insurance will be accepted. I go to Shands in Gainesville because I have what is classified as a rare Syndrome. I have to jump thru many hoops for them to see me and for my United Health plan to pay.

At the present time if you go to a village health location such as creekside and you physician determines you need to be hospitalized immediately you wind up going to the emergency room and waiting to be triaged. In my case i was in cardiac afib and was told to go to the ER. eight hours later I was finally placed in a room and IV was started. If they could direct admit no ER viidit required and placed in a bed on arrival and treatment started. BIG difference

Just curious.....if a person has either of The Villages Health insurance.....HMO 1 or the POS HMO2.....say you call 911 and are taken by ambulance to The Villages Reg. Hospital...do you still have to 'wait' in the ER and Triaged there before being admitted should the medical situation be needed? Do other insurances..AARP or BCBS Medical Advantage let you to just be 'direct admit' should the medical problem be warranted..ie. say appendicitis or heart attack?
Seems confusing and biased. If someone needs to be admitted asap...they should be able to do so no matter what insurance they have.

A joint venture via a remote emergency room has no apparent logic what so ever. From the VHA Voice, December 2018:
Central Florida Health and the University of Florida Shands Hospital System entered into an affiliation agreement in January 2018 to collaborate on new health initiatives. They continue to define the relationship. But some of the initial initiatives are as follows:
Better coordination of care for patients from our local community who have complex medical problems that TVRH doesn't typically treat.
Creation of a future internal medicine residency program to train primary care physicians to serve The Villages community.
Collaboration on Joint Ventures which will include the new Brownwood freestanding ED (groundbreaking early 2019) and discussions about building a future third CFH hospital in the southern part of The Villages.

If Shands gets involved with Central Florida Health, Central Florida Health will no longer exist. This would be a very good thing for the area to have a real hospital and doctors that actually know what they are doing. Until then, I am happy driving the 70 miles for all of my appointments. If you look at some of the specialists here that are very well liked, you will see that they completed their fellowships at UF Health. Advent didn`t partner up with Ocala, they bought them.

I doubt UF Shands would want to takeover TVRH. I did read somewhere that UF Shands wanted to train some of its students at tvrh.

I particularly do not see how any arrangement with TVRH adds any value to or for Shands.
Perhaps the Shands dialogue is similar to the Moffit connection in the recent past. More an arrangement in name only.
In my humble opinion.
Perhaps my view could change once more specifics were made available.
