I always make my own fruit cakes, based on the recipe my mother taught me. In fact, I just baked four of them this week. I love 'em. One is a gift for my mother-in-law who also loves 'em. That said, I've never tasted a store-bought fruit cake that I thought was any good. Fruit cakes vary so much that it may boil down to what you were raised with.

Have not actually had much of this. Kind of a benefit of being for the most part a loner. My neighbor brought over a Panettone which looks like a fruit cake but the last one I had was OK even if it took me a very long time to eat it.
