Has anyone else noticed the soup and salad bar at the Cattle Baron Club has NO sneeze guard over it. We were there for dinner last Sat. while waiting in line for a salad the guy in front of us was coughing and sneezing while building a salad. We had to pass on the salad bar!

I have to agree. But the salad bar is lame anyway.

If I remember when they had the salad bar in Katie Belle's (a long time ago before CiCi's) there was no sneeze guard over it either. Maybe it is their thing.

Went there last night for the first time in years. Comments regarding Salad Bar are 100% correct. An absolutely disgusting experience which will never be repeated. Cannot believe so many residents of TV are oblivious to who breathes, coughs or sneezes on the salad bar they are about to eat from. It's so low that I saw a short woman with long hair drag her hair in the salad while bending over to see one of the items.

We have found the overall quality of Cattle Baron has degraded. The salad bar is only one of the reasons we won't be returning.

Definitely right about the absence of a sneeze guard on the salad bar. I would think that is required by law (Health Dept).

Their soups are also too salty to enjoy. You would think that a restaurant in a retirement community would realize lots of customers are on reduced salt diets.

I am through with BOTH Cattle Baron Club and Katie Belle.

He said, "Creely .. but noone ever sneezes or coughs in TV!"

I'm not a salad bar person, but have always enjoyed the food at Cattle Baron. It would be ideal if people with issues would communicate these to management. If they knew they were losing a lot of customers due to the salad bar setup-- I agree no sneeze guard is disgusting-- perhaps they would make a change. We'd all be better off if TV restaurants do well.

I find that disgusting, (the couching & sneezing into food shared by others). Common and property decency seems to be uncommon. I wonder how that same person would like it had the waitress or waiter couched on their food as it was being served....Turn your head away from food, how simple is that?

We have enjoyed The Cattle Baron every time we've gone there. I like the food, the salad bar and service. I wonder why it's easier for a person to sit behind a computer to bemoan a bad situation, rather than mentioning it to personnel at CBs who'd be able to resolve it? I like that Golf1240 "Great, more room for us"

I am one who is not shy about reporting unsatisfactory service or cleanliness issues to a manager. It is my longtime experience that, more often than not, it produces no results. It depends on the restaurant or chain. At some chains unsatisfactory food will be replaced or removed from the bill. Some places it won't. In some restaurants, the person who purports to be the manager is just the next unlucky employee sent out to deal with the complaint.

But the issue of reporting safety or cleanliness issues, more often than not, goes unheeded and mostly unwelcome. For example, we dined at a very popular restaurant in Ocala that is always packed. The service and food are great. The fire exit door in the dining room was jam packed with cleaning equipment, high chairs and boxes. The manager didn't give a rats ass when I mentioned it. The fire marshal did, though, when I called him.

There is a popular restaurant in Sumter Landing The last time I was there, the food service counter in the back was as the same location at the restroom doors. The service staff rubbed elbows with the restroom patrons. Every time the restroom doors opened they were inches from the fresh bread. I hope that's changed.

At another restaurant, I saw the table busser put the squeeze ketchup bottle in the tub with the dirty dishes and left over food. When I mentioned it to the server, she gasped and said, "I can't believe he did that, please tell the manager." When I did, the manager said, "Oh, that's okay, we wash them all before we put them back out." YA RIGHT.

BTW, we stopped going to Cattle Baron after one night when six of us went there for desert after a movie. The restaurant was nearly empty. We were told that desert and coffee were not permitted without having had dinner. My call the the manager the next morning was unproductive.

Besides sitting behind my computer bemoaning, I have attempted to address my concerns about the salty soup and salad bar with CB mgt. Needless to say the soup is still salty, the salad bar is still in the open, and no one cared how I felt about the food. Three strikes and you're out. Three bad experiences and now there will be a another vacant table available at CB for someone else. Bon Appetit!!

We're new to Florida, but I'm betting there is a Health Department that should have some control over some of these issues. All you have to do is give them a call or possibly just e-mail.

Actually, I was wrong, Restaurants are covered by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

You can have my place too. Went there a month or so ago, ordered Shrimp scampi and they brought me a bowl of spaghetti soup with shrimp floating in it. Being from NY, I know good Italian food - maybe I should have stuck with the Steak

I hear what you are saying about the sneeze guard. But obviously you all know that there are many hands, noses, colds, etc. that come in contact with all the preparation for the salad bar items before they are brought out and put under the sneeze guard. Yes preparers are more aware of their actions than customers can be but there are no guarantees when you eat out!

I find the Cattle Baron soup/salad/bread bar somewhere between acceptable and poor.

Not sure. I just noticed a previous post that says a sneeze guard is up so I'm betting that's where the law fits in.

I don't ever remember seeing a sneeze guard on the Cattle Baron salad bar, being in there at least once a year in the past ten years or so.

Last evening, our group of over 40 persons went to the Cattle Baron for dinner. Now...the Cattle Baron is supposed to be an exclusive "For residents Only" restaurant. Wouldn't you think that they would take a little pride in the way the place looks? Upon looking up at the ceiling...the ceiling tiles are supposed to be white and are now coated in so much dust..it is black and hanging over every single vent in the place! It is disgusting! At one spot there was so much dust hanging..it was swaying in the air conditioning and about to fall into someone's dinner. My husband told the waitress who said she would pass it on to the manager. It's really a shame because the food isn't bad and the new $9.99 meals are truly a bargain but the dust really turned us off. If the dining area looks like that.... what in the world does the kitchen look like? It's time for a clean up!!!!

Having strong enough feelings about this issue to post on TOTV...... Why didn't you ask to speak directly with the manager, asking a waitress to pass along this information is no guarantee that the manager will ever know.

My husband did speak to the waitress (a very sweet girl) who said she would tell the manager and see if she had time to speak with us. I guess she was too busy but she said to tell us there is a cleaning crew! My husband suggested they look up and vacuum the ceiling tiles.

I would not take anyone at all to Cattle Baron Club. The place is disgusting. The food is oversalted, the service is surly, the manager is obnoxious.

Take my advice and go to a good place instead. The best place for my money is Ruby Thai at Lake Sumter Landing. Order the talapia ruby thai (medium heat) and you will be well pleased.

Once again, stay far,far away from Cattle Baron Club.

It is unfortunate about the lack of a sneeze guard over the salads, interesting though, they have one over the dressings? Perhaps the comments here will persuade management to remedy that important flaw in their serving process.

As for some of the comments, I feel the remarks against the Cattle Barron Club are unfair. We eat there often and have always enjoyed good service and the food for the price is above average. When we have guests visiting, we always treat them to an evening at the Cattle Barron Club. You cannot please everyone and the comments above certainly prove it! As for the salt in the soups, I have high blood pressure and understand the concern. But, I have the soup because everything is fine in moderation. I eat there once every two weeks at best and a bowl of soup with a bit more salt then desired certainly is not a health threat.

My wife and I ate out at The Cattle Baron Club recently and they had sneeze guards over all the soups, breads, and salad arrangements. The service was great, the food even better, and the drinks are the least expensive in the villages. The staff there always take good care of my entire family when they come down and we will continue to go there. We love this restaurant. I feel like golf2140 :) MORE ROOM FOR US.
