I'm looking to extend and enclose my lanai. I have received a quote from the company that I previously used on an old home and the price was nearly double. I was told that this is due to the tariffs on aluminum, Is anyone else experiencing much higher quotes than expected? And/or, do you have any recommendations for an extension with sliding glass windows?

I googled price of aluminum and got this;
Aluminum | 2018 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast | News (https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/aluminum)
This is up to date and looks like it hasn't gone up at all.

Hard to see that aluminum would be that large of the project cost. Sounds like a story. Ask for a breakdown of labor, alum etc.

Too much work in Villages due to rapid growth, contractors charge whatever market will bear. In our well heeled community that is even a little more.

The cost per -pound- of aluminum increased 11.5 cents over a six month period in 2018. If your addition uses 750 pounds which is quite a bit, the increase in raw materials are 86.25. Let's say I am off by a margin of 200%, the costs are still well under 300.00

I would get a few other quotes, if all are high, then I agree with above the contractors are charging what the market will bear. If all of these are too high, then you can try some additional contractors, check with seniors against crime etc.

Thank you. We too are giving some thought to enclosing the lanai. We will put them on our short list to talk to.

For quality work, I've been seeing..........
Enclose a lanai, $100/sf.
Expand & enclose, $140/sf.

Custom windows...excellent.
Their designer was very creative in helping us come up with a very attractive layout.
Ten foot sliders with an 18 inch fixed pane all top of the doors.
Very good quality. Excellent customer service.
We did get three quotes. They had the best offering and were the lowest bid.
We are not typically low bid selectors for many reasons. For this job, however, Custom Windows had the best offering and service.

We used Melton Construction to turn our lanai into a Florida room. Raised floor to grade, block walls, low e windows, etc. very good work and good price. I highly recommend.
