View Full Version : Bath tub or shower?

We are going to remodel our second bathroom’s shower/bath tub. My wife and I are conflicted in whether to re-do it as a shower/tub or to make it into a shower only.
We slightly favor the shower-only idea, but is it a mistake to lose our only tub?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I prefer to have at least one tub in the house. You never know when you need to fill the tub with water to flush toilets for storm preparedness.

We are pulling out the tub. Has not been used in 6 years. Never have lost power and we always have a case of bottled water.

We looked at homes without a tub and my wife ruled them out. I am a shower person, so I wouldn't care, but I was overruled. I think for resale a tub would appeal to the greater number of people.

In my opinion, there should be at least one tub in the house for two reasons. One is for resale value. The other is that you never know when you may want or need to soak in the tub for medical reasons.

It all depends on needs etc. In our house, one of us has some physical issues and the standard tub was no longer an option. So we replaced it with a walk-in tub (that does have a shower attachment). NOT everyone loves these but we do! I suppose there are pros/cons to every decision....but we felt this was a good one for our needs. OR put in a walk-in shower that has a seat. BUT if one wants to soak ours was a better option.

I agree. In addition, my mother-in-law visits, and I don’t believe she has ever taken a shower; she bathes in a tub, so it is good we have one.

I assume you do not use the tub.
Would you want or need a walk in tub in the future? Might want to consider one now???
Since you have a walk in shower in the master bedroom I would keep a tub in the other bathroom. Especially if you do not use the second bathroom for bathing.
I agree with most of the above about keeping the tub.
Have two tubs and never used them. Both have showers and never used them either. Just use the walk in shower in the master bath.

After surgery I had to use the tub for a sitz bath.Other than that no other use for us.

Haven't had a bath in 40 years.
Shower only. Less water use, and you wash in clean water all the time.
Baths are yesteryear!

Tubs are accidents waiting to happen. Go with 2 showers. We did and don't regret it.
