I am curious about the constant ad that appears regarding information for people who are thinking of moving to The Villages. I can't seem to find the title of the book or the authors name. Has anyone purchased the book? What did you think? What was the title? Author?

Thanks

Perhaps the book you are referring to is Leisureville: Adventures in America's Retirement Utopias.

It is interesting but written several years ago so is out date concerning TV.
The writer who does not like retirement communities and is biased against them probably due to the fact that he was in his 30s or 40s when he wrote the book.
The book is spiced up mainly to help sell more copies, after all he wrote it to make money.
It is however an interesting read. It explains how the Morse family aka The Developer uses various "methods" to finance and build TV. I believe the library in Wildwood has several copies

He was only here in the Villages for a few weeks in late 2005. Various libraries that serve the Villages have copies of this book. It does go into the sex lives of a few Villagers and seems to overgeneralize from those that those lives are some how reflective of the average Villager.

Most of the Villagers I talked to about the book really hated it. This was when it came out around 2008.

Leisureville: Adventures in a World Without Children: Andrew D. Blechman: 9780802144188: Amazon.com: Books (https://www.amazon.com/Leisureville-Adventures-World-Without-Children/dp/0802144187)

It is by Andrew Blechman.

Book Review | 'Leisureville,' by Andrew D. Blechman - The New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/01/books/review/Leland-t.html)

It does cover the history and government of the Villages fairly well though and he has some thoughtful comments about grandparents and their involvement in their sons and daughters and their grandkids lives even if these too seem quite over-simplified.

Could be this - I took the link from TOTV Don't even think about moving to The Villages without this Book! (https://www.talkofthevillages.com/delivery/)

Try "Inside the Bubble" by Ryan Erisman. Haven't read it myself but it's a fairly recent book and I hear that if you buy the eBook, he keeps it up to date with the latest info.

If it's the one by Talk Host, he moved from The Villages and Central Florida several years ago.

One of the most informative books is “The Villages- Then and Now”. Written by Lee King PhD and published in 2004. I purchased it from the author at the now non existent book store in SS in 2004. The book is divided into two sections. The first is about The Villages and the second is a historical account of this corner of Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. Well written and interesting.

Ryan's book is the most comprehensive and up to date resource available regarding The Villages. Here is his website; The Villages Florida Book & Newsletter | Inside the Bubble (https://www.insidethebubble.co/)

Does Talk Host own TOTV again? He did and then he sold it to what I thought was the present owners, a car dealer from Atlanta. Talk Host, a fellow named Jan moved to Plant City and last time I heard ran a Forum there. Maybe the present owners HERE bought the right to the book.

Jan's booklet was informative but it is way out of date. Ryan's book is updated regularly and much more comprehensive. I'm not trying to sell his book and I don't know him, but the book is full of information for any TV wannabe.

I found this book by Parker Sykes very informative. It also quite comprehensively suggested lists of matters to consider, both pro and con. I do not know if it has been updated. https://s3.amazonaws.com/TheVillagesMonthlyContent/50-things-2012.pdf
