What problems do you have with critters and your pets. Do fire ants pose a problem, or worse, snakes? My dog investigate EVERYTHING so what will I have to worry about?

Red ants are probably the biggest risk. I haven't seen any poisonous snakes here but I'm sure they exist here, especially around the ponds. I do have a very pretty black racer that lives somewhere around my house but it really prefers to run away if you get close. I would suggest you not walk your dog near the ponds since you never can tell if a gator might be there.

Be sure to keep current on flea/tick/heartworm medication. If you do get ticks, go to the vet for a tick collar -- it will get rid of them in no time flat. The pine straw loves to hide the ticks, so do your best to keep your dog out of them.

We use Revolution for our two dogs to prevent fleas, ticks and heartworm.

The biggest problem is Fumar, stay well away from him!

I haven't seen any snakes in our yard yet and we back on a golf course with some water. I'm sure there are snakes in the tall grass on the golf course and by the water, but dogs aren't allowed in environmental areas or on golf courses.

Fire ants in your yard would definitely pose a problem for dogs. But if you call your Pest Company, they'll come immediately to get rid of the problem.

Definitely don't take your dog swimming or near bodies of water. For sure, there are lots of gators around. I hear they migrate through the pipes, so best to be careful.

Dogs must be leashed in TV. So your dog shouldn't be able to investigate everything. There are off-leash dog parks available without the above hazards.

Fire ants are definitely a problem where we walk our dog (between Homeland Park and the pond across from Bonita Rec Center). Could someone tell me who I can call to get the area sprayed? We're new to TV (less than 2 months).

There have been snakes near the water bowls at Doggie Doo Run Run. This 10 acre private dog park borders a Villages' golf course; but, this is only in the 5 acre exercise field. The snakes as far as I know have never made it into the small dog nor the big dog sections.

My dog dug up what looked like a poisoned 6 inch mole at the Lynnhaven Postal Station. This was just bordering the golf course; so, I assume that is what happened to this mole. He got it by just digging a few inches under the dirt near a mound of dirt that looked like a mole's diggings.

I also know of at least one accident in which a dog on one of those long retractable leashes ran out in front of a golf cart. This was not in the Villages but in one of the Dell Webb communities; but, it could happen hear too I suppose.
