We noticed quite a few satellite dishes in St. Charles. Do they work as well and are they as or more economical as compared to Comcast cable? Also wondering what company Villagers have their satellite hook-ups with? Embarq, the local phone company was recently merged with Centurytel to form CenturyLink, which advertises satellite packages.

If you're sports minded, go with DirecTV.
There's lots of posts on this site on this subject.
A search on "satelite" or "dish" will probably net many many results.
I've been a satelite customer for more than 10 years.
I've had both Dishnetwork and DirecTV.
I feel satelite picture quality is better than cable
I feel the prices are lower but that's objective as to what you want.
And I like DirecTV because they are the only one to offer MLB ticket & NFL ticket.

Does anyone know if you can get the Villages channel if you have Dish Network? I have tried to find it and can't. If you know what channel it is on
with Dish Network, please email me at candymc5@comcast.net

Thank you

No Village TV on Dish Network.

The market is showing concern for Cable Nationwide, with approximately 1 million lost subscribers per year. Not that that is earth shaking, I feel the first place industry cuts back on is customer service after the sale when they have to tighten the belt. For that reason, I am going to bring my DISH Network DVR's with me when we move down in May.

I switched to Dish not too long ago and am very happy. I have a bundle through Centurylink (Embarq) and am saving $50 or more per month. I don't miss The Villages channel at all - it was good when I first moved here but I think they went downhill. I never watched it anymore. I was surprised at the number of people just in my neighborhood who dropped cable and went with satellite.

What is Centurylink (or embarq)? And how do you get a hold of them? I'd like to do Dish again but seperating out my internet seems costly. Thanks.

Centurylink(embarq) is local phone co. I use them for internet and phone service. Happy with their service. Can not comment on Dish network. You should be able to get number using the internet. I do not have it handy.

Direct TV is the best in picture, in sports, in movies, in service and in reliability.

We have comcast bundle, we have been told that dish clarity is superior to cable but we find that with mutiple TV's, we save approx. $200 on the bundle per month...Big savings

Direct TV has a great picture and we take our receivers with us to either home and get all the local channels with just a phone call.

WOW! You SAVE $200 per month?!?!

We "only" pay about $216 per month (in Pennsylvania) and I complain about that! We have the Comcast "bundle" with phone, high speed internet and TV cable. Four sets hooked up... two with DVRs, and two with the mini boxes which convert the digital signal.

I would be very curious to know what others are actually paying for Comcast, Dish, Direct TV or Centurylink/Embarq if you care to share that information. Please include what you have hooked up.

Has anyone tried Sky Sat 20 advertised in today's Village Sun?

We were at the Craft show in LSL yesterday and the folks at the Direct TV/Dish network booth told us we could have one or the other installed(I'm not sure which one) and have 1 DVR and mirror it on other TVs and the cost would be $31/mo. We were also told that they had a contract with Comcast to get us HS internet for $20/mo. They also told us that we could get land-line phone for less than $2/mo.

Does this sound reasonable to anyone? Sounds a little too cheap to be of any benefit.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

We did sign up for an installation, but have the option to cancel before that date.

Whatcha think?

I believe you can also get DirectTV now from Century Link as well. They may only have DSL and not the high speed you get from Comcast.
