Has anyone tried this restaurant yet? It is in the old Isabel's in Baylee Plaza on 441 and 42.

Yes, I have been to Taverna Red's. It has a very nice indoor as well as outdoor bar. Inside and outside restaurant. The owners are the same who own Pasta Faire in Belleview. The kitchen is open to the public and the service was great. I've only had appetizers and drinks so far so I can't rate the food. Happy hour is 4-7pm and nightly entertainment by one man performers. Several TV's on outisde for sports and news. I will visit often as the place is packed everynight with no advertising. Dancing is also happening! Enjoy!

We were there Sat night and the food was wonderful. He had the salmon and I ordered the pork tenderloin. Both were around $13, perfectly cooked, nicely served and delicious. Another member of our party had a steak and shrimp dish that he vouched for as well. We will definitely go back.

Hubby and I went tonight with another couple. We all had something different. and we all loved our food. Had to pay extra for a salad which bugs me but that is all too common throughout The Villages. The entertainment was nice and we danced and enjoyed. We would definitely recommend it and will go back again.

Well I was there yesterday and was quite pleased with everything

I came in around 5:00 but sat at the bar and ordered a cocktail and the lamb shank dinner to go. Great atmosphere, good sized bar inside and a smaller bar outside on the veranda which boasts an outdoor fireplace for ambiance. Entertainers (guy and a gal) were just getting ready to play. I looked around and most tables were taken and there were just a couple of people in the entrance way waiting to be seated. But no lines, so I have no idea where this 3 hour wait rumor started.

And for you lamb lovers out there, it was as good as I could have asked for.

I agree, Ed. This is a very well run, beautiful restaurant. We arrived at about 7pm, we asked for a table on the veranda which is beautiful. Therefore, our wait was a little longer (20-25 minutes). The servers were very fast and efficient, actually, as usual, I was asking them to do a lot of favors for us (stop the overhead fan, and pull down the window shades because a spot light outside was blinding me) and all of this was done instantaneously with a smile and good humor. The food delivery was quick and was absolutely delicious. We ordered 2 pizzas and 2 fish dishes and they were excellent. Loved the entertainment and as usual, we danced until closing, 9pm. Everyone, Everyone, in this place was the best that you can be. We will definitely go back next week when some new entertainment starts on Thursday.

I'm also not sure where the comment about a 3 hour wait came from, as I don't see these people being that inattentive of their customers.

So, Pturner, why don't we go there with you next week. Have a safe trip to TV and we'll see you soon.

...so I have no idea where this 3 hour wait rumor started.

Not a rumor at all, the timeline is documented and published on the Gourmet Club's website which I have always valued highly. But no one ever said it was a 3 hour wait. You said that! The review states 3 1/4 hours total time for the meal and the author knew the restaurant operators.

Stop splitting hairs Skip. Here is your earlier post:

One reviewer in the Gourmet Club was there all night, over 3 hours! They may need to get their act together before we make a visit.

First of all, it is a rumor that you started because you are not providing firsthand knowledge of your experience at this restaurant but merely passing on hearsay evidence from an unknown person in another thread and in another forum no less. For all you know, that poster could have been a shill for Little Joey’s Italian restaurant that is in the same area.

Secondly, your post was vague about where the time was wasted and I’m not obliged to go to that forum for the details. More importantly, who cares whether the time was wasted waiting to get seated, waiting for you order, or waiting to be served, waiting is waiting and 3 hours to have dinner out is too long.

My own personal experience (at least on a weekday) was positive.

So let’s hear yours.

Hate to quibble but it is not a rumor. He was reporting what was written. Skip even told you who reported it. Is it a rumor if a reporter for a news station quotes a source? Didn't think so.

Here is the link to what Skip reported: http://home.comcast.net/~thevillagesgourmetclub/page2.html#T (http://home.comcast.net/%7Ethevillagesgourmetclub/page2.html#T)

Personally I'll make up my own mind since there is only one report so far on this newer restaurant. But i do like the gourmet club's site.

not exactly - the report was from the gourmet club (member name Rich on 3/10) who have a process to make sure that shills can't do this. I could understand if the report was just from some other forum like TOTV where we do get a lot of shills trying to bring down a competitor.

You can't just post reviews to the gourmet club. But still it is just one person's (actually 6 in the party) experience.

Boy Ed. You really need to read all the posts. :)

I gave you a link to the site. It is a very good site which lists all (most) of the restaurants in an around TV. It is broken down into 3 lists. One for inside TV, one for close to TV and one for outside the area. I have found their experiences very close to my own.

I agree with Kathie though. Best making your own opinion and go ourselves. But the gourmet club is a good reference.

How about everyone just check it out for themselves? We're all different and what matters to one or appeals to another might not always fit. If we were all the same, every restaurant/business would be owned and run by the same people. There would be no reason to do otherwise. I keep in mind what others say, but check it out for myself while keeping those comments in mind....positive and negative. Sometimes I end up agreeing...sometimes I don't.

Thanks Russ:

Over the years, I've tended to rely on and believe The Gourmet Club's website too, even more than comments made here on this forum - especially from posters (like EdVinMass) who don't sign their messages.

I merely reported what I read. Someone else twisted my comment and never went to the source.

Hats off to the leaders of The Gourmet Club. Good, bad or indifferent, they post actual experiences and do it with no advertising support, I notice.

'Nuff said!

Well Russ, it would have been better if you had come to this conclusion before jumping into the fray from a thousand miles away before you even stepped foot into the restaurant, let alone dined there.

My home is just two miles from Taverna Red and I’ve already been there twice now and reported my personal experience and opinion, but here you are quibbling with me over references and links to other forums from afar. Can’t imagine why.

You seem to be more interested in providing your opinion about another forum for restaurant discussions than you are in discussing experiences with this restaurant. TOTV has a fine restaurant forum, no need for me to go to gourmetville.com or whatever it’s called to see what some tweedle-dee has to say.

Please, by all means, come back here and give us your impressions of Taverna Red after you’ve had a chance to dine there yourself.

Personally I think the those that do not like the establishment tend to NOT put their information on the Villages Gourmet Club site.

There are very few NOs for many of the restaurants that the TOTV people do not like.

It was started with good intentions but don't trust the ratings. I gave up on this site a long time ago.

Only you know how good a restaurant is.

Great restaurant!!!!! :icon_hungry:

My experience from my second visit to Taverna last night was the same as the first experience. I didn't have a reservation, was told it would be a 20 min wait to be near the small dance floor, the wait was actually only about 15 min and we were served immediately and with great efficiency. This is a well run restaurant, the food is excellent, and the staff is the best, especially the bartender, Jennifer. Say hi to her, she's adorable.

Oh yes, and the music was great! Lots of fun! Come join us on Sunday evening, we'll be there again.

Can't agree with overpriced and bad service. 6 of us were there monday and all had good food and service and the prices were very reasonable with large servings. Same as at their other restaurant in Belleview (Pasta Faire).

Went there Monday Night and was thoroughly impressed. First time there. Really liked the atmosphere and the music. Although there was 30 min wait, we opted to go to the bar. I thought the alcohol was kind of high priced unless you drank beer, house wine or rail liquor which was 2for1.

This is not an Italian Restaurant. It is Med. The selection was ample an we opted for the Red Mussels followed by the Paella for two $30.00. Service was excellent. Food was reasonably priced, but we will limit the liquor.

Hope that helped!

After reading a favorable review about Taverna Red, my family and I were excited to try it, especially the lamb shank. Well, no more lamb shank on the menu we were informed by the server. In fact, now they were "mostly Italian"'and not Med-fusion. Loud polka music, stale bread, flat beer, rubbery calamari, flavorless chicken dish, over- cooked dried up halibut with big chunks of un-seasoned potatoes and broccoli for $14.5. Disgusting!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY.
