Hope these pictures of the area way down south in the new areas of the Villages give you a different prospective than video taken by drones. I do enjoy both kinds of angles/shots. Even if I could be miniaturized to fly inside a drone, I’ll stick with flying in the 1946 Cub. :icon_wink:

Thanks! Those are excellent. I am especially interested in the area between Brownwood and the Turnpike. We are probably 2 years until they really get on that side of the Turnpike, I hope more like 3. Looks like LOTS of preserve and water views...

The scale and organization of the site prep work is staggering, approaching what I've seen in the middle east and China. Very impressive ground remediation.

The large piles of dirt are called surcharging a site. To compact the soil, they add a significant load on top of the existing soils using the weight of the additional soils they bring in to compress the existing soils below. It only works for specific soils. They install monitors to determine the compaction they achieve of the existing soils. It is not used a lot, I think I have seen it on sites a couple of times over the 30 years have been interested in that type of thing. In this day and age, where time is money, most developers are not willing to spend the time waiting as it is a fairly slow process. Don't know if it also helps in the areas geological testing showed susceptible to sink holes.

I think this method is probably way cheaper than Lime, Gravel, or concrete slurry. I have never seen this either, but can't imagine it is easy to get enough compaction with this sand and all the rain!

After reading the sad news of the B-17 crash with fatalities in Connecticut, I had to reflect a moment on my flying an aircraft that is only two years newer. :shocked: All pilots examine the risks and then do what we can to minimize them. It was a super day to fly last Sunday and I hope you enjoy the pictures taken from a little higher than drones are allowed to fly.

Thanks twoplanekid. I am interested in the photo of the shopping mall. I have been looking recently at TV plans and your photo's seem to imply my worst fear. There doesn't appear to be golf cart access to the shops. I can clearly see paths around and bridges connecting the Everglades Rec Centre. Any views on this?

Coming from the UK and being restricted to a maximum 6 months the big pull of TV, and especially Marsh Bend was the fact the majority of amenities we require are very close, golf, running, nature, sports and a supermarket. Our plan was to only have a golf cart and not a car in the US.... but if the supermarket is not accessible...

The red circle indicates the signage that golf cart access is restricted beyond the sign, so if you plan on going shopping, stay on the roadway instead of the cart path, your access in should be easy, access out, maybe a little more difficult.

Thanks for pointing out the picture was taken West and not East of Finney. Correction has been made. The other picture might be of the foundation of a cell tower. We should know more in the weeks to come as to what it is.

As many as 12 dump trucks a minute full of dirt have been dumping in that area for weeks now.
