how does your garden grow

I can remember my family canning the excess product from my dad's garden many years ago ..... :mornincoffee: so I always liked to grow a few vegatables myself ...... here in The Villages our sprinkler system emmits water that is somewhat less than pristeen ...... so I was wondering about the wisdom of eating veggies grown here, having been partially irrigated by the sprinkler system .... :confused: ..... any comments

If that is a major cause for concern, you must be aware that organic stuff is not just fertilized with compost (ever heard of milorganite?). Simply washing them well will eliminate those concerns and anything absorbed by the plant is rendered harmless. IMHO

First, despite popular opinion, residential irrigation water does not come from recycled sanitary sewar water. The water from the waste treatment plant is used exclusively on golf courses (along with storm water and well water). The residential irrigation water comes from a combination of storm sewer run-off and well water. That being said, I asked the person in charge of the water program in TV if he would advise using residential irrigation water on edible crops. He said that he would not recommend it since there is no way of knowing what polution ends up in the storm water run-off.

I plan to use my rain barrel water - comes from the roof, which would have some minor dirt/shingle particles, should be fine for watering edibles and non-edible plants.
