Does anyone recognize WHERE it was taken? It looks like a tower in the background and I can't place the water. The fences look right. The background has two story houses and we don't have many here. "THEY" don't usually allow gators that size around here.

It's the MMP at Brownwood. Larry has been there for years, and yes, its a BIG gator. Not sure where you see two story houses, and the small water tower is at one of the entrances to Brownwood.

Larry needs to be removed to a place away from humans before something bad happens.

I've worked at golf courses on which there were gators. When they got to be a certain size, they would remove them to places away from development. A gator that size can kill an adult human. Both the residents and Larry would be better off he he were to be relocated to an area that has not ben touched by humans.

Which begs the question.....how many humans have been killed by gators in TV? If you give them respect they will leave you alone....we play golf a couple times a week, and fortunately we are starting to see them on the courses again. Enjoy the wildlife we have here, all the wildlife.

None as far as I am aware.

Lots more by falls from golf carts by people acting irresponsibly in some way or another.

You cannot fix stupid though as I remember they had to get rid of one gator at John Chestnut Senior Park on Lake Tarpon which was by a pond. Japanese tourists were sitting on it and taking one another's pictures!!! :ohdear: Well between your thread and the one started by lottoguy I woundn't think Larry has much of a chance for a long retirement in The Villages. And for the uninformed ...... they DON"T relocate gators! All the attention just gets them a death sentence! :ohdear:

Sadly, I've heard that they call a trapper which results in a dead gator.
I hope that isn't Larry's fate.

Hopefully Larry won't be charged for anything! Until he approaches humans he should be fine but you can bet there will be someone stupid enough to get to close and then file a complaint. I wish people would leave them alone and keep there grandkids and pets away from the ponds,:ohdear:

I understand the reasoning why gators aren't relocated.
As far as I know, although he is a large gator, Larry just minds his own business and is not a nuisance gator.
So I hope that is not Larry's fate. Although with the media attention, he will probably be killed.

Remember the buffalo.
I do remember the buffalo. I hope that Larry doesn't disappear the way the buffalo did.
In my humble opinion, we have a duty to protect our wildlife.

The buffalo herds weren't wildlife though. I think they were owned by The Villages developers, and relocated.
They were formerly located in many areas that are now prime commercial properties. One area was to the east of Bob Evans on CR466.
I miss seeing them. However life moves on, and commercial property is valuable. Now there is an apartment building there instead of buffalo.

Too bad people just can't leave these magnificent creatures alone. Video taping and putting this on the news got him eliminated. I knew the need to remove him became inevitable when I witnessed crowds of onlookers taking pictures from 10 feet away. So sad we can't coexist.

The 11 pm news said Larry relocated to Orlando.

Doubt Larry had a happy end.

Why does the FWC not relocate nuisance alligators in Florida?
Florida has a healthy and stable alligator population. We have about 1.3 million alligators in Florida. Alligators live in all 67 counties, and they inhabit all wild areas of Florida that can support them. The removal of nuisance alligators does not have a significant impact on our state's alligator population.

Relocated alligators often try to return to their capture site. They can create problems for people or other alligators along the way. If an alligator successfully returns, capturing it again would be necessary and likely more difficult the second time.

To avoid creating a problem at the release site, nuisance alligators would need to be relocated to remote areas where they would not encounter people. These remote areas already have healthy alligator populations, and the ones that already live there have established social structures. The introduction of a new alligator to these areas would likely cause fighting, possibly resulting in the death of a resident alligator or the introduced alligator.

Just saw a report on 6 News, Larry was 11 feet long and weighed about 600 pounds. He has been relocated to Gatorland and from the video didn't look happy.....but, he has playmates. The interviews stressed that he wasn't afraid of humans so he was a threat and that was because "we" were feeding him.....that's BS because I don't see any gators here that are afraid of humans.

Larry the Alligator from the Villages... - Gatorland Orlando (https://www.facebook.com/gatorland/videos/vb.151819628065/269139917332807/?type=2&theater) There's Larry, in Gatorland. There's the sign, on the fence at Gatorland. Larry is alive and well, in the company of over a hundred other gators, with plenty of wildlife for his entertainment and dining pleasure, in a MUCH larger environment than what he'd experienced as a result of being figuratively boxed in by Villages construction.

An animal like that can only eat so many guppies before it starts looking for a tasty Maltese, or grand-son, to whet his appetite.

Ornery Alligator Cuts Off Traffic (poke here) (http://fox35orlando.com/fast-five/ornery-alligator-cuts-off-traffic-in-florida)

A Florida woman had to make a quick stop when an alligator ran out in front of her while she was driving.

Cassy Hall said she was on her way to Marco Island when the alligator crossed the road on U.S. 41. near 951 and Verona Walk Boulevard.

"It's scared me so bad! It was hissing at me as it was passing," she told FOX 13.

It appeared that traffic in all lanes of the road stopped for the alligator as it made its way to the other side.
