Golf course care

Many postings about golfers lack of care of our courses, such as not raking sand traps, fixing divots, slow play. One thing that would help greatly is to give authority to, and require, ambassadors to uphold these standards. Most, with a few exceptions, just deliver sand and water for the privilege of half priced golf. They are leery of being terminated or reprimanded if they upset the "privileged" people who feel they do not need to help maintain the courses. Most "good conditioned" courses outside the Villages have some enforcement policies they adhere to.

I went for a job with the Villages Golf and at the pre-screening we were told Ambassadors are just that. They are there to make sure everyone has a good time and represent the Villages in a positive way. They are not there to police the course. It is not their job to push, rush, or in anyway, negatively impact the the play or players. And a little tid bit of info, they do fill divots on the tee and sometimes on the course, I have seen it and I'm sure most of you have also. Being an Ambassador is not just about half price golf, it's about the love of the game, and give back what it gives you. I met some that have been doing it for 20 years, and are the happiest and nicest people I have met here yet. If you only knew what the ambassadors, and starters have to put up with......

Yes, I agree with Steve. The golfers MUST take some responsibility to know the rules and practice the appropriate golfing etiquette. AND, help your guests by teaching them what is appropriate behavior on the course, be it Championship or Executive.

Until such time as this issue gets appropriate visibility in the happy paper, in the home owners association papers, in the starter shacks, in the weekly recreation schedule etc........there will never be any improvement.

And based on no negative publicity policy/position by or about any entity of TV.....it ain't gonna happen.

That would be fantastic, but what ideas does anyone have that could make this a reality?

Then, they should say so. The "owners" are great at marketing; public relations, not so much, even for a privately-held company.

Maybe.....not a significant enough issue for the owners to follow up on......it most likely gets absorbed by the underlings that actually run TV.....the buck stops wit the owners.

That is why I continue to recommend write to Mark Morse and Jennifer Paar that one of their center piece promises in advertising is in decay!

It isn't going to happen. Reprimanding people appears not to be part of The Villages persona. Ditto saving chairs at pools and squares.

That isn't how things work here. We aren't in Kansas anymore.

And to cheer you up, in just ELEVEN days the snowbirds and their feet who have been adding to the feet who have been abusing the golf courses, the snowbirds, who we all love, will go home.

OH BIRD POOP. How do you know how they feel? It appears to me that everything else is taken very good care of. The courses do get a lot of abuse from newbies who don't know how to play and by tons and tons of feet.

Ambassadors are just that mostly. Rangers are similar but have a little more bite.....

"Golf course rangers oversee the smooth operation of play on a golf course by ensuring golfers abide by a course's rules and regulations, and also by making sure the grounds are properly maintained. As a representative of a course or country club, these individuals often interact with golfers, so they should have a pleasant and helpful demeanor."

One other thing, they are serious about the pace of play, and that can change their demeanor.

Even if FL was open-carry IMO your statement shows poor judgement considering the current atmosphere in our nation.

And is an un-needed distraction to a serious subject.
