36 years ago this month I went on a blind date with a Brooklyn College CO-ED. We dined at the Sum Hey Rice shop in Chinatown. Spent hours eating and talking, found out how much we had in common.

Left Chinatown and crossed Canal Street for a dessert and coffee at La Bella Ferrara in Little Italy. Dropped her off in the wee hours of the morning.

Six months later we were married and never looked back.

Last night that Lady and I had dinner at Wo Hop in Chinatown (Sum Hey has long since closed). We crossed Canal St. and had Cappuccino and pastry at La Bella Ferrara in Little Italy.

In 71 days we will leave NY to settle into our home in Hadley. NYC has been a large part of our history together.

Last night was our farewell dinner to NYC.

MEL, you have nothing but good things to look forward to in TV. Although being Army for 30+ years and having moved frequently, we still have feelings of the big move. I guess since we are lucky enough for our other home so close to TV that we do it on weekends till wife retires, it makes it easier.

Your story brought back a flood of memories. I too, always ate at Sum Hey in Chinatown. I left NYC in the eighties and everyone I know that is still there eats at Wo Hop now that Sum Hey has closed. We also ate at Luna's in Little Italy, but that also is long gone. Great food and great memories.

Another one who remembers Sun Hey (but probably not as well as many of you). Mel, just hurry up and get down here. Well, you guys can stay up north, but I miss Magic!!!! (Folks, if you think Mel's post is sweet, you should meet his girl -- she is such a sweet dog!)

Best wishes in your new home. To surprise your "bride" you might go to Ferrara Bakery online and they will ship overnight their delicious canoli, both plain or chocolate dipped, among other great favorites. Just type in Ferrara or Ferrara Cafe or Bakery.....they all work. Cookies are great as well.

Everything arrives in perfect condition.

It's been 45 years since we've been to Little Italy as that's when my paternal grandmother passed away at age 95. It is mostly Chinatown now.

Nice memories.

Flying down Sat (5/1) for a week of finalizing the big move. Only 66 days and New York will be in our rear view mirror. Pauline and I look forward with excitement and a bit of trepidation.

But Magic (the wonder dog) can't wait to spend time a Doggy Doo and visit with Redwitch.:2excited:

Just got back from an very intense week at our Florida home. Contracted for the remodeling of our closets, added 2 solar tubes and that was all by Tuesday.

Week went by much to fast, but we are going to finish packing and get the POD loaded and headed south.

56 days and counting

:2excited:

You are still only 3 hours flight from Mulberry St -- whenever the two of you feel like canolis head for Orlando Airport.

They can take me out of New York City but they will never take New York City out of me. Born and raised in Brooklyn, met my true love there. Spent countless hours at Juniors, Coney Island's Nathans, China town, little Italy, Peter Lugers ( under the Bklyn Bridge ) Proposed to my sweetheart in the Hawaiian room in the hotel Lexington. Ahhh the fifties in Bklyn, there will never be another time like it. Except maybe the 2000's in The Villages. :-)
