I have a question on Comcast installation. I got a letter from Clear Link Comm saying that they are The Villages Comcast installer. Who does the installation in The Villages? Comcast or Clear Link?

I can not tell you if it was clear link who did my installation. I can tell you it was a third party contracted to comcast. I am for sure it was not comcast itself.

I used Clear Link Communications to do my Comcast installation. The technician who came used to work for Comcast. I found them much easier to work with than calling the 800 number for Comcast.

I called Clear Link and they told me they don't install everything I wanted. I think I remember they also didn't install where I'm moving to, Mallory Square. What I remember is they told me to call Comcast.

Our Villages realtor gave us a list of numbers that we'd need for setting up our new home. Included in this was a local number for Comcast installation. I called hoping to get it scheduled in 2 weeks when we'd be back down to TV. They were unable to accomodate us and suggested that we call Comcast on their 800 number. Did this and had no problem getting it scheduled. They arrived on time and did a good job.

It's confusing. Clear Link can make appointments to have internet and cable installed but not telephone, even if you're interested in getting phone service from Comcast.
Install is done by a rep from Comcast. I don't know if he works for that company or is third party.
Most questions about service have to made to Comcast. I'm still not sure why I called Clear Link or what the actually do, except answer the phone and make appointments for Comcast. Some folks say they can get an appointment for installation quicker through Clear Link.
I had a question about my first bill, which included installation fees and a lot of other stuff. The rep from Clear Link assured me that it was correct. Didn't seem right to me so I called Comcast and they agreed that I'd been overcharged $24.95 and issued a credit.
When you call the Clear Link number, the phone is answered by someone at the The Villages Daily Sun, so I guess Clear Link is in cahoots with them.
Hope this is much clearer to you now! lol

My installation was done by a Comcast employee. I made the appointment directly with Comcast. It took two trips to get it right and both times the technician was a direct employee of Comcast.

I just called today to have Easylink get me hooked up. I said I wanted the Triple Play service and they said I'd have to call Comcast. Called Comcast and gave them my address in Buttonwood and they said it was too new to have it in their system and would have to put it in the system and call me back in 3 or 4 days. I wonder how others on my street got a hookup unless they didn't request triple play and Easy Link did it. From reading other posts it appears that Easy Link doesn't do telephone service. Isn't there AT&T or Bell South in the area?

:coolsmiley:Thanks for the thoughts on Comcast hookup. As it turned out, our area in Pennecamp is not in Comcast's system yet for phone service. Also, the total cost of going thru Clear Link or Comcast is very close. So, we went with Clear Link for cable and internet. Thanks to cell phones, we can work on the phone hookup later.

We called Comcast about a month before our move to Pennecamp. We got conflicting info on whether Comcast phone was available or not, but finally got someone who said it was and it took her about three or four days to get it into the system. Of course, when we got to Pennecamp and called to verify our appointment time, Comcast said they had no record of us even though we were previously given a phone number. It took about 3 calls until they found us.
As far as installation, we had two guys who I think were subcontracted by Comcast even though they wore Comcast shirts. A third guy, a regular Comcast employee, had to come out to install cable cards in our Tivo because that is a service that Comcast will allow employees only to do. Kind of funny, though, because the subcontractor had to talk the employee through it.
A bit of a trouble to get everything done with Comcast, but everything is fine now.

I hope this hasn't already been asked...when Comcast comes to do an installation they charge you for each outlet...my question is what is done for each location? When we hooked our cable last time all they had to do was turn it on for us...no specific charge for each room in the house. Also, when you select internet on their website it says installation is $99.00. No option to not select. Thanks in advance for any answers.

That's a very good question. When we purchased the house we have now, it was "wired" for cable. What that meant was there was a box in each room with a wire hanging out of it. I did all the hook-ups myself. I put cable connectors at each outlet and tied all the rooms together down in the basement. Am I going to have to do this in TV? Is it allowed? There are no safety issues involved, just stripping the cable and putting a connector on the cable and a cover plate and then running a cable from the TV to the box.

Cable outlets all have connectors on them. You won't have to do that. I have outlets in each room and one in the laundry room and one outside.
Comcast charges for each box you rent, they don't seem to charge per active outlet. If you want, you can plug in your cable ready tv to the cable outlet without a box and get a number of channels.
When we moved in we had an additional outlet installed in our bedroom. Mom in law just had two additional outlets installed in her new house when she move in. We had them installed by someone other than Comcast. We were told that only so many outlets will work well without putting in a booster but we didn't exceed the power limit. Mom might have so she deactivated one she wasn't going to ever use.

Yeah, I know there are no basements there. I'm really going to miss mine. We have Comcast here and I was just checking how things were there. When we first moved in here, in VA, we were using a 10' sattelite dish for our TV and there was no high speed internet. We had to use dial up. Things sure have changed in the last 18 years. We have two DVR boxes here and I have wondered if we could bring ours or will we have to turn them in and get new used ones there. I guess my best bet is to call Comcast.

If you want to install cable phone you have to go to Comcast. I wanted to take advantage of their triple play pricing so I went directly to Comcast. At first they told me that they did not service my area at all. I called a second time to get a different sales rep and they were able to find my address and tell me that they could install TV and Internet but no phone service available yet. A third call confirmed that there was phone service available also. :ohdear:

In another post about Comcast, I mentioned the fact that when we moved about 20 miles to a different address, even though we still stayed with the same comcast office, we ended up having to turn in our boxes from the old address and get different ones for the new address. Had something to do with different account numbers in their system????? Whatever. Can't imagine them letting us drag them off to a different state. I guess each area has their own set of serial numbers assigned to them.

I called Comcast last week (7/14/2010) to order triple play. I was given an acct number and a telephone number. I wanted to schedule the install for September 6th when I will get to The Villages. I was told that they couldn't schedule out that far and to call back in a week). I called back today (7/23) and talked to a different person. I gave her my acct # and was told that when she put in my Social she got a message that I couldn't place the order over the phone and that I had to go to a Service Center in Leesberg in person.
Anyone experience this? I'm sure they can take an order over the phone. I'll call back again and talk to a different person and see what they say.
Kathy
I had good experience with Comcast installation, we had Cable TV and scheduled upgrade to triple play prior to our move here earlier thsi month. did everything over the phone, installer came on time and did a good job.
I'm happy with the VOIP phone, internet (I added the wireless router and wireless print server) and TV

Like I had said, we were dealing with the same office in that move so was basically the same equipment. Later we swapped out one box for HD and added a DVR HD box. We will see how our install goes 1st week of August. Did get very good info when talking to the Orlando office. Did find that when you call the 800 number, the office you end up talking to depends on the area code and exchange number you entered that determines how your call gets routed. I used 352-752-xxxx and got the Orlando call center.

I have been trying to get a Comcast installation for about 6 weeks. They have come about three times, billed me for the last two months and I still have no tv. People on the phone are courteous but getting things done is not a strength. Does anyone recommend another tv/internet provider?

Cable outlets all have connectors on them. You won't have to do that. I have outlets in each room and one in the laundry room and one outside.
Comcast charges for each box you rent, they don't seem to charge per active outlet. If you want, you can plug in your cable ready tv to the cable outlet without a box and get a number of channels.
Comcast charges a flat rate for cable installation plus an extra $20 for every cable outlet you want activated. Activating a cable outlet means adding a connector to the cable located in the box attached to your home's outside wall and plugging it into a splitter. They don't charge extra per month for the activated outlets.
You can easily activate the outlets yourself if you know how to splice a cable. However, if Comcast catches you with outlets that they didn't activate, they will literally cut your connectors off (I know, sounds painful). I don't know what gives them the authority to do this since all the cable that runs into your home should belong to you... not the cable company. Nevertheless, they did it to me. Plugging a cable ready TV to a cable outlet that hasn't been activated will not get you a signal.
One of many reasons why I switched from Comcast to DirecTV.

I believe this is the old comcast. With Xfinity now you get a signal in each outlet but to get anything more than a few basic channels you have to rent a box for each television set. This can be basic, HD, DVR. You can get on demand features as well.

We have basic channels and have been completely satisfied since. We did not go beyond basic since our time in TV was limited and have gone on vacation mode now.
Sounds like you're correct about Xfinity. We are able to use any of the several outlets in our home. It sounds like they're getting pretty much like Time Warner which we have in NY and love.
BTW, there were a bit more than a few channels in basic. I was quite surprised on how many! However, we will be getting the HD box so we have advanced features when we return.:clap2:

DirecTV has partnered with CenturyLink for DSL and phone service. Basically, you get a $5 credit on your DirecTV bill. I went to their office in the Rolling Acres Plaza to see how much they charge. It turned out to be $15 per month more than Comcast for internet alone after the first year. I've also heard that their internet speed is also slower than Comcast. If you bundle phone service it might save you money. For us, we use cell phone, DirecTV and Comcast internet. Not happy with Comcast customer service but it's working out for now.

I'm surprised that AT&T or any other Bell system is not visible in TV. What Comcast quoted me for internet was twice the cost and half the speed for what I'm paying in Ohio. Don't need a phone..I'm happy using my cell and OOMA internet phone.

I'm new to the area- renting for a month and hoping to buy a home in the Village of St. James. In WA, we had Verizon wireless internet service and cell phones, and DirecTV. Any opinion on what's better- stick with what we had or move to Comcast- pros and cons? Thanks for any words of wisdom beyond what's already in this thread. Thanks for sharing.

Pooh; That wasn't our experience at all. We had to pay for each outlet in the multiple rooms that we wanted activated.
Now I'm trying to help a relative who just moved down here. Dealing with Comcast is a mess. I don't understand their structure; all the different numbers and all the inconsistent information. There doesn't appear to be any quality control or accountability.
