Went to Arnold Palmer's tonight for the twin lobster tails. As I was going in, the trolley pulled up in front. I wanted to tell all the passengers what a wonderful place this is. The driver refused to open the door, I don't know what he told the occupants.
As they were leaving, I shouted "WELCOME TO FLORIDA'S FRIENDLIEST HOMETOWN"----I think they got the message.:ohdear::ohdear::ho:

Trolley tours are scripted.
The doors are not opened at every stop, especially at an eating establishment.
While you fussed outside, the tour guide was talking to the riders, probably about the history of the restaurant.

I think the trolley driver was acting in the best interests and safety of the riders. The OP may have had good intentions, but could have looked like an idiot, or worse.

I might be a little scared in that situation depending on what the shouter looked like. And they might not have been able to hear you??

Waving a happy welcome is fine but speaking uninvited to a group on a bus is weird. I wouldn’t have opened the door either.

Or you could have been a person who truly despise the developer, telling them how greedy the family is, and wanted alert all on the bus.
How would the driver know what you would say.

If they've been around for a while, I'm guessing the trolley driver has seen more than one drunk Villager, waving and screeching at the trolley as it went by...so why wouldn't they think it was simply déjà vu?

We took 2 trolley tours and they only opened the doors once on one of them and that was at the Fenney sales office. We were invited to get out and stretch and have a potty break or quick walk of the nature path. Otherwise like a previous post mentioned, they have a scripted tour monologue.

I'm getting the feeling that someone in this thread is one of the people who ran into the street and tried to jump on the pedal party during the Irish parade. SMH.

Maybe the drivers have had so much or so many experiences of residents/visitors thinking they were a transportation/ride that they have concluded to save time it is best to just not respond.
As a result his action appears "unfriendly".

Hopefully, it means he will “never” try to address a group of trolley passengers again.
The post wrt the spiked Arnold Palmers was hilarious.

The OP is the same person who bought a doorbell to put the bell by his wife’s bedside when she was bed-ridden. In order that he could hear when she needed him. It is in the door bell thread. I can see such a kind person welcoming future newbies to TV. I’m afraid some of the responses here sound a bit childish.
However, my partner drives a tour bus for living. He said he would not have opened the door either. Strangers do not know who you are.

I’m sure the op is a nice person, but the “childish” responses were prompted by the childish title of the post and the post itself. No responsible bus driver would have opened the door.

Absolutely correct. I can understand that he may have been puzzled and disappointed. But, to travel home, go online, and write up a complaint about it is a bit much.

Couple things – I’ve taken the trolley tour with my guests three times, all very different experiences, not sure they are scripted.
As former Federal Law Enforcement, I would not have stopped and allowed you onboard. Safety is paramount and the liability TV Sales would have allowing the practice of allowing people to board off the street is huge.
Sometimes we get so comfortable in an establishment or location we forget we too are guests and don’t own the place. If the driver allowed you to board I suspect he would no longer be employed. I know you meant well but this was not the way.

The Trolley is not a transit service. Driver was doing his job. It is a tour bus for TV. Simple answer! Have another Martini in Palmer.

Nothing to “get.” I think OP put the driver in a very uncomfortable and unfair position.
The parting comment regarding “friendliest...” only made the incident more weird.

The same thing happened to me, when I saw a bus load of Swedish bikini swim team girls. They would not open the door for nothing when I was jumping up and down trying to flag them down wanting to get in the bus.

That's because I told them that I didn't know or recognize you...and that I was all they needed to protect them.
Sorry about that...maybe next time. :o
