GREAT WEATHER in The Villages.

Do you open your house at night???

80's & 90's during the day, but 50's & 60's at night.

Do you open up at night or do you keep humidity & pollen & dust out??

We open up every time we can.

Yes, the weather is wonderful. Open during the day but close at night.

With the temps the way they've been (warmer but low humidity) we open up during the day as well as have the windows open at night. It makes for lovely sleeping. Too soon the humidity will come with the heat so we'll have our "reverse winter" with the house closed up and constant "air" on.

I would love to open the windows but my allergies just won’t let me. More power to those that can.

We open up the slider to our birdcage and a couple windows whenever we can. Not only do we love the fresh air, but the sound of the peepers chirping in the preserve behind our house. It's nice to give the HVAC system a break.

Can't handle the pollen. When we purchased our home I removed all of the screens for ease in washing the windows and never put them back in. Several times a year when pollen is low we will open the sliders to the lanai for fresh air in the mornings. So far so good.

Yes, we do. Have been getting allergy shots, and amazingly, they’ve been working, so opening the sliders at night are wonderful!

Nope the pollen is too much for us.

We always have our windows open at night and often during the day with fans blowing. My wife and I both dislike AC but concede it's necessary when it gets too hot or humid.

If you try opening, there is a lock on them. Must unlock prior to sliding open.

When I rented a Lantana in Mallory for the month of May, the first night I opened a bedroom window. The next morning I could not close it and called the landlord's handyman. He had no success either so I went without fresh night air the rest of the month. I do not know if they ever got that window properly closed,

I don't have allergies (been tested several times) but if I open the windows for the night, I have a sinus headache by morning. For some reason having the windows open during the day is not a problem.

When the temperature is over 80 in the house (regardless of outside temp) and the humidity is over 50%, the AC has to come on. If it's not humid, but it's hot, then it'd depend on the breeze. If there is one, probably just let the breeze cool us off.

We don't really worry about pollen. I keep a bottle of Zyrtec, another bottle of Xyzal, and a snort-container of Flonase on the kitchen counter all year round. I select my med of choice based on the time of day I feel it's needed.

Yes, open house at night, til about 11am the next morning. Put a fan in an open bedroom window to pull in cool air, all other windows are simply open, we don't keep the ceiling fans on overnight. This is our 1st month here, so keeping track of a/c, open windows, utility bills for the next yr to track trends. Luckily, neither of us has allergies. And who notices pollen/dust from the outside when you have cats on the inside. :icon_wink:

Open early morning until air kicks in. Close at night because there are beasties that come through our yard at night!

Yes, I'm loving the cool nights so far!

I have trouble sleeping if the bedroom windows are closed. I have a box fan in one bedroom window that runs all night and is turned off in the morning when it starts to get warm. I'm grateful to feel so safe here that I'm able to do this.

Also, I love a chilly temp and have never turned on my heater in the 9 years I've been here. Night temps in the 50s are very comfortable for me. If it gets in the 40s I may throw on a sweatshirt. :)

We are from Brooklyn so DH will not permit the windows open at night. He too worries about "beasties" -- but his beasties have only 2 legs and are attracted to anything that can be "fenced" like computers, tv's and jewelry. LOL

Mine are feral cats that party on our patio outside the bedroom. They must eat anything that moves !!!!

Our windows have never been open in 7 years. We do keep the sliders open by the pool when the temp is 70-80 outside so as not to A/C the outside. We most certainly would never keep them open at night being on the ground floor, as this is a huge security issue for us. While it's not reported that there have been many home invasions here, why give anyone the opportunity? There are HUGE numbers of transient workers here from contractors to yard people. Residents don't know their backgrounds but anyone with a history of B and E will know who the easy targets are for opportunistic criminal behavior. Be careful out there!

Closed all the time. Don't want the pollen and dirt and humidity. Keep AC at 80 degrees during warmer months. Overhead fans running. Previous owners must not have run AC as much, as there was a lot of rusting in the house. Door stops, oven drawer, mold in shower, etc.

Do open slider to the lanai on occasion.

My opinion is that it's "overkill" to keep yourself all shut up because you fear a home invasion. How the heck often has that happened in TV? Almost never.

Plus there are little devices that you can install that keep your windows from opening so far that someone could get in. We had them in our last house because a member of the police dept. came out and advised us on safety issues. We like to keep the garage window open to facilitate air flow.

There was a scare a number of years ago about people kicking in your front door easily in order to rob you. There are security items you can have installed that makes that next to impossible. Entrypoint store has them. There are ways to keep your sliders from being lifted out as well.

Some people in TV were so scared about ebola a few years back they wanted to close the borders, deny even Americans from returning home, and hide under their beds. I think there is a mindset of fear that is unnecessary in some areas. Maybe it comes from the area you are from. I'm sure people in big cities would be more concerned about robberies or home invasions.

Sometimes home invasion fear comes from past trauma, not necessarily from crimes in the area.

Leaving your windows open at night or whenever is like leaving your front door unlocked. You're asking for trouble.

Hmmmmm . . . It's interesting that all of those who said they would never leave a window open at night, no one said they were worried about being sexually attacked. Can you imagine??!?

No big shock regarding the windows.

Did you really expect the developer to provide everyone with double hung windows The expense would have killed them!
