I lost our spare VW beetle spare key at Disney. I have contacted Disney in the hope they will find it. I contacted Leesburg VW, and the cost is $290 for a replacement. I also checked with Affordable Lock and they cannot supply a key for this vehicle.
So my question is has anyone found a local supplier for these keys?

Wasn't there a previous thread with info about a vendor at Market of Marion that does this at low cost?

Have you checked with places like Replacement Key Fobs and Keyless Entry Remotes (https://www.keylessentryremotefob.com) . If you search for "VW key replacement" you will find quite a few non-dealers who may be able to replace your missing key.
Sometimes cars with "fancy" keys need the car to be reprogrammed to recognize the key... if that's the case with yours it might be more difficult to get a key from a non-dealer.

A few years ago I investigated getting a new spare key for a 2004 VW Touareg. Locksmiths kept referring me to the dealer because of the programming issues. $290 sounds like a pretty good price to me as I was quoted $300+.

All, I did a Google search, and found several sources for the key fob, and even found programming instructions, my next task will be to find a locksmith that can cut the wavy groove in the side, I am sure this is very specialized equipment.

Thank you for all the replies, I did call the gentleman from Market at Marion, he does NOT do VW beetle keys, he claimed possible problems with the electrical system when trying to register the new key key, He also cautioned me against the very low cost keys on Google and Amazon. Then as it turns out, I found the "lost" key.
I wanted to pass along the info in case someone else with a Beetle runs into the same problem.

...I found the "lost" key...
Glad you found the key, VT
You'll have to wear it on a chain around your neck from now on!

If the key doesnt have a remote, try Walmart. I hadthe same thing happen back in Ohio. I think I got one last year for 40 bucks.

Very Interesting, I lost my car key several years ago at a Disney Hotel. Had to spend the big bucks for a new one. If you can afford Disney, then spend the $200 for the replacement. You won't have to worry about problems. Sorry for your loss.

All, I actually found the key, but in the process, I found that specifically VW Beetle keys are very difficult to have duplicated, and in general you need to go to VW.
Thanks to all who have replied.
