I recently installed a drip system for all of my landscape beds by tapping into one of the sprinkler heads. The drip system does have to be on an irrigation station that is separate from the lawn stations so you can put the beds on a different irrigation schedule.
One word of caution, be sure to use the larger canister type filters at the point you tap into the sprinkler head. There is a lot of sand and other debris in the irrigation water that will clog the drip heads. The smaller screened connectors will not get the job done.
Also, be sure to use a pressure regulator after the filter.
I am very happy with the results so far. Each plant gets the proper amount of water with much less overall water usage.
