After 7 months, 46 home showings and two previous buyers unable to obtain mortgages, I am closing on my home in NJ and will close on our new home in TV on May 26th. A home we have never seen in person. It was purchased on the internet and yet we are fully confident of our purchase.
We had to lower the selling price of our home $70K below what we would have got a year ago and would get in another year. We leave behind aging parents and most of our family and friends. Yet we come.
We do not golf or plan on taking up that sport. We are not joiners and do not anticipate participating in many activities and yet we come.
We are at least 7 years away from retirement and had to substantially reduce our income in order to relocate to TV and yet we come.
There are no job opportunities in my field less than an hour and a half from TV should my company go under and yet we come.
We come for the people of TV, the sense of community, the quest for a happy life lived among others of our generation. We come because we visited TV twice in the last 5 years and could not stop thinking and talking about it. We have moved 14 times and this will be our 9th home purchase in 38 years of marriage and feel that we finally have found what we have been searching for all this time.
Despite what my wife thinks, I am not coming to TV because the women outnumber the men. :)

Vinny, I truly hope you and your wife will be as happy as you dream you will be. Do remember that TV is what you make of it. If you choose to stay home, talk to no one, do nothing, then you'll be lonely and miserable. If you go to the squares, make the time to partake of the activities you enjoy, stop and talk to almost everyone, you'll love it here. The one thing I can guarantee you is that people here will be happy to wave and say hi. They will share their lives with you if you make the effort.

Vinny:
Great news! Redwitch is right, though. If you close yourself in the house, you'll be unhappy. But, there's soooooooooooooooooo much happening here that you'll be unable to resist.
And, I'm betting that your new neighbors, whether they've been here for ages and ages or days and days, will soon create a street party or get-together for everyone. Some places reportedly have roving weekly cocktail hours. My own street has been getting together once a month for at least three years. We always have fun, we worry when someone doesn't show up, we commiserate when someone's feeling down. We haven't killed any one yet! :D
It may have been a hard bullet to bite, but now that it's bitten, welcome to the best so-called retirement in the Universe!

Welcome Vinny. Life is what you make it. Even if you just go to the squares a few times a week at night and listen to the music or go out to eat, the feeling of youthfulness is contagious.

Vinny
My husband and I have done pretty much the same thing. Reduced a house that was on the market for a year, sold a boat for more than we owed on it, leaving 6 kids, 5 spouse's in law, 8 grandkids, an elderly mom and lots of friends and family and headed for the Villages. We close on June 14th and are looking forward to it. We will, however, be golfing, attempting pickleball, heading to the Town Squares and events within our neighborhood. We figure it is time for us....

Congratulations,
We are scheduled to pass papers up here on June 21. We will then take a leisurely drive down and then rent for a month or two to find the right home for us. What Village did you buy into?

Congrats Vinny,
I hope all your dreams come true. I, like you, never golfed and didn't think I ever would be interested doing so, but with the influence of the many many friends I've made since I arrived last July I am now a novice golfer. It's a great way to get out into the sunshine with my great new friends who do nothing but encourage me in improving my game and then we go for a beer and a little nosh and just have a blast. It's great down here Vinny. Take it from a fellow North Jersey Boy.
