If you want to hit off grass (good grass), and hit NEW golf balls, plus a wonderful staff, I highly recommend Buffalo Junction (behind Walmart on 466)....Small bucket is $4.00 but they always throw in some extra balls....Lessons available also.....I'm not associated with this range but is definitely the nicest range in the area...
Is it golf cart accessible?

The Buffalo Junction Range or Patrick Leahy Golf Acadamy is a great place. Besides being able to hit off grass it has a nice little golf store and you can use clubs they provide if you need them. I went yesterday and an instructor gave a great little free seminar on chipping technique.

No traffic if you use the street behind WalMart.

I agree. This place and people are the best. Sand trap, pitching area with targets, and good grass, plenty of it. Best instruction at fair prices.

Anyone know what the price is for lessons? Group and/or private? My SO has promised to take lessons and at least try golf once we move down this fall. I'm hoping he'll fall in love with it, as I did, but maybe I should be careful what I wish for.

Patrick Leahy sign removed on 466 (2nd Hand Rose) across from Walmart but Patrick Leahy Academy was moved to range at Buffalo Junction which is behind 466 Walmart...Not sure of cost of lesson but I'm sure you will be pleased...While hitting balls could overhear lessons and will sign-up when my game heads south.

Very wise statement:)
You should have no trouble finding golfing partners even if he doesn't.

You're right Russ, there's never a problem finding golf partners in The Villages. Those I've met when randomly paired up often give me their cards and say to give them a call when we are finally moved down. Also easy to meet compatible golfers at Ladies' Day on the executive courses, which is mostly what I always play.
Just wanted to let everyone who golfs by themselves to know it's easy, and fun (and easier to get a last minute tee time by yourself) and not to be apprehensive about signing up for a tee time by yourself. I've met the nicest people and rarely had an uncomfortable experience. Have golfed with all levels of golfers on the executive courses.
It probably helps that I'm not a beginner, but I'm not a low handicap golfer either. But if you are a beginner, I think you'll still meet other beginners out there and maybe you can make a future tee time together. Another good place to probably meet golfing partners is by taking a group lesson somewhere, or series of lessons. Have those calling cards ready!

We've visited TV, came home and have our house "on the market" in NC in preparation of moving permanently. We're visiting the month of December and neither my husband nor I play golf and know very little about it. We do plan to take lessons and try it out when we can get moved down.
My problem is when we are down there in December my brother-in-law would love to play a little golf and I don't know where to send him. He has had some health problems that has affected his game but he still likes to hit that ball around. Is there a putting green somewhere that might entertain him? We will be staying in Santo Domingo.
Any suggestions as to where my husband and I should start when we get moved down?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I believe all of the championship courses have putting greens - there may be some that allow chipping (with restrictions - not full swings). There are also lots of people with physical restrictions who still play. Pick and easy (1) level executive course, inquire ahead of time about how to get a handicap ribbon for your cart (allows driving close to ball on par 3s and closer to green). Check out golfthevillages.net and call to double check.
You probably will find more beginner golfers on the easiest executive courses. And if you feel he is slowing down play, just skip holes when needed.
Most of us move to a retirement community so we can continue to be active as long as possible, so I would hope we can have some compassion, and believe that most of us would be very accommodating.

Collared shirts for men are required. Not quite as strict for ladies, but, they do not allow t-shirts, bare midriff, etc. Safest bet for ladies is to also wear a collared shirt.
On chilly days, I don't think there is any issue with outerwear.... sweatshirts, jackets, etc.
I believe the Tiger-inspired mock turtleneck is also OK.
Jeans are OK.

This place has new management and will not honor my prior credit for balls. The credit is down to $ 200.00 and today I was told that it will be zero tomorrow. 3/2/12. This is per the son of the operator. The operator now is Dean Johnson.

A very good driving range with an excellent staff. I have used it several times over the last month and agree with all of the positive comments posted.

I am in the same boat with about $100 credit. Even though it has new management it never ever closed down after P Leahy left in the dark of night. Leahy left owing many people lession's also. The property is leased by the same people, sad that they won't honor the credit's.

Leahy left owing many people lession's and owing thousand's to contractors who help build and develop the range. The property is leased and owned by the same people, sad that they won't honor the credit's.
It's land is leased by the same people but land is owned by another not associated with the range business.

New management and all credits were cancelled. I lost $ 200 on the change and will not use the facility again. Pat Leahy moved south.
