I'm sorry to to say anything negative, but why do we get the same shows year after year? Kansas, Lords of 52nd street, Hotel California, Lee greenwood, The Righteous Brothers, The Drifters.....that's a pretty long list of past shows here. Is this all that is available?

I'd be interested in suggestions as to what kind of acts people would like to see, either at The Savanna Center or The Sharon. Also, let's be reasonable, Billy Joel, Elton John or Bruce Springsteen are just a ways out of the budget.

I'll throw out a few:

Jackson Browne
Jethro Tull
Boz Scaggs
Seals and Crofts
Frankie Vali

Your Turn.

I would love to see Jackson Brown solo again
Some others as solo acts, and I think the Sharron would be great for, for me personaly would be, in no special order;
Ryan Adams
Amos Lee
Luka Bloom
Jack Johnson
Colin Hay
Mark Knopfler
Patty Griffin
There are loads more, and I could go on..........

Why? Prolly cause their tix are money makers?

How many times have the Lords of 52nd Street appeared here? Have you been to one of their concerts? Maybe you are not a fan of B.J. music?

Too bad Robin Williams has also passed. He could have done the intros for Lawrence Welk...

I wouldn't mind more comics; Jay Leno and Paula Poundstone were great. Paula does so much audience interaction that every show is a little different.

Saw Styx at the Sharon and it one rockin' vibrant evening. Had never been to a concert like that there before or since. The crowd never let up; they had to keep the bae lines open during the show.

Nobody got rowdy or obnoxious. There was too much fun to ruin it. The band was still together which made for a more genuine experience.

There are other opportunities like that.

There are 128,000 people in the Villages and the Savanna Center holds about 950 and the Sharon a little over 1000 How many shows would it take for everyone who wanted to see a group to be able to. If the group is good the shows sell out if they didn't they would not keep having them back.

How about Abbacadabra. They are touring the country right now, and have had rave reviews. They said they used to come to The Villages, and would be interested in coming once again, should the new recreation department consider contacting them. They are at 'ultimate" Abba tribute band. Those are great show suggestions. BUT if they don’t fix the acoustics at Savannah Center - skip it. We attended Blood, Sweat & Tears, and The Village People this year. The music is so loud it drowns out the lyrics. You couldn’t hear a lyric unless you already knew the words. It is the same for any seat therein - main floor or balcony. FIX IT , or give the microphones more power than the music amps.

Recently attended a tribute to Dick Clark, American bandstand tribute hosted by a talented Ron Seggi. It was supported by a 13 piece band that was positively super.
This show has been presented in towns around Orlando and has had high review from each of the showing.
The band members and singers are all from the Orlando area.
The show is listed on the internet under Ron Seggi.

I would love to see Forever Plaid at the Studio again. Saw it once but want to see it again. I haven't laughed so hard in years. It was great.
Another would be to have Kenny Vance and the Planatones come back. I think they were only here once.
A different venue would be to have all of the great songs from Broadway plays (Phantom of the Opera, Cats, etc.)

Would any of you be interested in seeing Jefferson Starship or the Steve Miller Band? If either are of interest, I could see if these two bands might be interested in playing in The Villages. My sister is friends with the owner of Starship, and I'm friends with the Steve Miller Band's keyboard player's ex-wife. At the very least, I could find out if they'd ever considered the idea, and point them to the Sharon Morse center's production folks.

Update: got in touch with Chris Smith (owner and keyboard player of Starship) and he says they played a few years ago at the Morse P.A. Center; gave a texty-thumbs-up to the idea of doing it again.

It sounds like you really like Jefferson Starship. Let me set the record straight on this. Starship featuring Mickey Thomas was at the Savannah Center March 28th for two shows. I was front row center at the 5pm show, he was fantastic. Mickey joined Starship in 1979 after Marty Balin (who passed away in Tampa last summer) had quit. He and Grace Slick lead the band until finally Grace walked away in 1988, original guitarist Paul Kanter had quit in '84. So Mickey was the last of the recording artist. After Grace left, he dropped Jefferson from the name and has carried on ever since. His current band mates for most part have been with him since 1993 and Stephanie Calvert the female singer has been with him since 2006 and sounds exactly like Grace Slick.

Mickey was the original lead singer on the hits We Built this City, Find your Way Back, Sara, Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now, Jane and It's Not Enough to name a few and was vocalist on the Elvin Bishop hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" when he sang for them in the 70's.

The group you're referring to Jefferson Starship has one member who actually played in the band during it's hit years. David Freidberg played guitar from 1974 to 1984. That's the only connection they have to the band, not one singer. They played here for free promoted for veterans, I believe it was 2016 at Savannah Center, I skipped going. I've seen them on youtube, and it's not good. They really only have a female vocalist, who doesn't do Grace Slick as well as Stephanie in Starship and no male lead vocalist. Friedberg does some singing, but it's obvious why he was a guitar player. Freidberg owns that name, the Chris Smith you mentioned is the keyboard player and has only been with them since 1998. Maybe he is the tour booking agent which is why he is the contact person. That's Friedberg below, his biggest claim to fame was he was an original member of Quicksilver Messenger Service before joining Jefferson Airplane.

http://jeffersonstarship.com/uploads/3/4/9/7/34972717/1457557418.png

Steve Miller would be a good show, I don't know if the Sharon is quite big enough. One person who we have never had here and would play in our Savannah Center, is original vocalist guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad "Mark Farner". Mark is legally unable to use the name Grand Funk because of paperwork he signed in 1998 in error. So when you see that name listed, it has the drummer and bass player but not the star of GFR.

At 86, he probably doesn't have a lot of performing years left.
