IMHO, use the same company that you will be using to install your new floor, this will save having to clean the house twice. Carpet removal is somewhat messy, I know I have done it.

When we had our carpet taken up to be replaced with tile, the company that did the tiling removed the carpet and took it away.

Yes. Habitat for Humanity will take it. Also, it's easy enough to take up yourself, if the padding is not glued down. (Hopefully that is no longer done.)

Thanks for info. We are putting Dow vinyl plank ourselves so I wanted to get it removed before my sons come down to install

Offer it for free on this site in the classified section.
I'm sure someone will be glad to have it and take it.

I took mine out by myself and rolled it up in the garage. I ran an add on Craigslist and it was gone in a couple of hours. Really grateful people picked it up.

Great thanks for the help. Was your pad glued down?

Mine was in spots. Also they lay out your molding and spray paint it in the middle of the living room in some new houses. I scraped my entire floor before installing tile. Used this from Lowes:

Worked great. Got up the glue, paint and splatters of taping compound. You will also need a hammer, wide cold chisel, and eye protection for the tack strips around the edges. :ho:
