How do you dispose of moving boxes once you unpack?

Flatten them, leave them curb side on recycle day and they will be picked up and taken away.

This subject brought up a question I've been meaning to ask. What does one do with junk that needs to be trashed. Such things as old chairs or sofas and such. Where we currently live, the town will take them on certain days of the week. We asked a salesperson in TV and he wasn't sure.

For the boxes, place an ad on freecycle.net (there's one for Lady Lake and one for TV). You can also do the same with old furniture if in semi-decent condition. There's always someone in need.

Our garbage people will take a lot of the smaller stuff -- kitchen chairs, ottomans, etc. I think if you call them and make arrangements (and pay extra), they'll also take your sofa and overstuffed chairs.

Not quite the same as back in St. Louis! If I had something that I wanted to get rid of, but it wasn't "standard trash," I'd just take it out to the alley anyway. 99.9% of the time it was gone by the next morning! Even things that were clearly unusable - like a television with its screen smashed!

Big city vs. "small town," I guess!

Same here on Long Island. Most of the large items we put out don't make it to the morning when the trash truck comes by. It was always nice to see that somebody thought they could use it.

I've put a sign on anything here "up north" saying 'FREE'
and it's gone before I can get back in the house LOLOL

don't know if that works in TV, but you can make other arrangements with the trash folks, be forewarned, their customer service phone people are not very courteous IMHO.

I used to work for NS Railway and there was a story I heard years ago about how they got rid of some old used cross ties.

They stacked them up and posted a sign that people could help themselves and not one of them disappeared. After a few weeks they changed the sign to "Private Property - Keep Off", and all the ties were gone within a week.

I hope that wouldn't be the case in TV.
