In the past I've written on this board and mentioned to friends, if you're eating at one of the CC, don't park your cart with clubs in the car parking lot. It only takes seconds for a thief to steal your equipment, just pop the trunk of their car and away your stuff goes. Even better, you can buy a golf bag security system sold in the pro shops and always park in the golf cart lot.

From Villages News June 25, 2019

A Villager’s son has been arrested in the theft of a woman’s golf clubs from a golf cart parked at Mallory Hill Country Club.

The woman parked her golf cart at 12:45 p.m. June 18 at the country club and when she came out about an hour later, she found that her golf bag, containing her clubs and other personal items, had been stolen.

At 2 p.m. that same day, the golf clubs were pawned for $333 at Play It Again Sports in Leesburg.

The clubs and other items were valued at $4,314. The bag had contained a TaylorMade M6 driver valued at $500, two Cobra Hybrids valued at $200 each, one TaylorMade M6 3W valued at $400, four TaylorMade M2 irons valued at $200 each, a TaylorMade Hi-Toe sixty degree wedge valued at $200, a Bushnell brand range finder with a blue gel case valued at $300, 50 golf balls, a Columbia brand rain jacket and matching pants, and Bionic brand left-handed golf gloves.

A deputy obtained the receipt for the pawned items and found that 44-year-old Andrew Lawrence Simpson, who lives with his mother at 564 Richburg St. in the Village of Mallory Square, had provided his driver’s license when he pawned the woman’s golf clubs.

Simpson was arrested at his mother’s home on a charge of grand theft. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.

In 2015, Simpson was arrested after impersonating a dentist and phoning in a fraudulent prescription at Publix for Hydrocodone in his mother’s name. He was sentenced to probation.

The only good thing you can say about Hitler, was he didn't live with his parents--but they still believed he was a good boy

I had my clubs stole several years ago. It isn't about the clubs, it is the violation feeling. So little money for such a risk. No fear of jail.

NOTHING padded. The article says everything was located at Play It Again Sports. That "rag" is known for not reporting things correctly anyway. The golf-bag and clubs weren't what the 4k total was...there was clothing involved with that as well.

Another great job by our local sheriff's departments.
They do a good job in nailing those golf club and golf cart thieves.:police:

Note it said the golf clubs were sold to Play it Again Sports. It doesn't say the bag, range finder, 50 balls, etc. were recovered. There's a good chance the thief took them out of the bag and sold them separately.

Just another loser sponging off a parent. "But mijito is such a good boy."

I got it! In his mugshot he looks like a young Uncle Fester or an angry Donald Duck! :ho:

I can't think of many things that would anger me more than having my golf clubs stolen. However, I wouldn't mind catching that dirtbag attempting to steal my clubs. The sad part would be that I would probably wind up in worse legal trouble than the dirtbag golf club thief.

Why would anyone with $4K worth of golf stuff leave it unlocked in a parking lot? This isn't Utopia; it's a normal "city."

Sounds like they padded the inventory of the golf bag. Can you say insurance scam?

I can't figure out how the thief was able to lift the bag off the golf cart with 50 golf balls in it. That's 4 boxes of balls. Never heard of anyone carrying that many balls.

Golf equipment is stolen from Country Clubs more often than you may think...even when left to momentarily to check in. The most economically efficient solution is cameras recording the outside of the facility and posting the existence of them.

After a break in at my house up north, my insurance paid for everything at replacement cost. But they asked for either a receipt or photos of the items to show I had them before the break in. It took a year for me to document everything, the police investigation, the insurance company sent an inspector to my home, and to my school. They also did a character check of me to see if I was lying with several people. It was quite a large settlement, but to this day I’d rather have, for example, the lovely museum quality vases my mother gave me from my birth country instead of the money from the insurance company.

My clubs and bag are so old and ugly nobody would bother them.
