There is no such thing as "The British Open" anymore. It is "The Open".

There never was a British Open.

Watching at moment, and it looks goodbye Rory and Tiger.
Tiger looks so uncomfortable.

Rory will probably have to go -6 tomorrow to make it into the weekend. Tiger will need to wake up.

I generally like to see the cream rise to the top in majors. As the USGA says, "We're not trying to embarrass the greatest players in the world. We're trying to identify them."

They got it right in the firs three majors. Tiger's victory at the Masters, Brooks Koepka at the PGA Championship and US Open champion, Gary woodland is a player that has been knocking at the door for a long time.

Shane Lowry however has been nothing more than a journeyman player on the PGA Tour. He's had one PGA Tour win and five European Tour wins prior to his Open Championship victory. I am not usually thrilled with someone like this, who is likely to be a one and done major winner. But in this instance, history will record this as a great victory. An Irishman winning the Open when it was played in Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years was very fitting. I like seeing history being made and this was history.

It might have been better had Rory or Darren Clarke won, but Rory shot himself in the foot and no one could have taken the 50 year old Clarke as a serious contender. So aside from that, Lowry's win was one for the ages. Good on him.
