Just tried our local pool at the Postal Rec Center and to my surprise, Swimming Pool Etiquette appears lacking and or none existent.

“Some” of the guest; not sure if it’s a cultural thing but yelling, loud profanity, drinking from a glass container, smoking and eating while in or near the pool displays a complete lack of swimming pool etiquette which is unhealthy for other guest and just plain rude. Additionally, I believe I even observed an old fart peeing in the pool based on his body movements and facial expressions. GROSS !!!

I realize that many of the guest here at The Villages come from the NE where swimming pools are not as common as in Florida, but it’s time for “some” of us to change our old way of doing things and behave in a more courteous manner.

BTW - For the IDIOT swimming at The Sugar Cane Rec Center this Sunday afternoon wearing a man thong and weighing in at over 275 pounds --- GROSS to the max !!!

Some neighborhoods have more culture than others. Did you research that before buying ? Perhaps you did not notice the lawn ornaments of old ladies bent over and little boys peeing in fountains ?

Glass and smoking is not allowed, call the security guys.
There are people banned from pools because of their behavior.

You are having more than your share of trouble. Several weeks ago you wrote that you were "accosted at Publix". Now this. I think your experiences are atypical. But people MAY pee in Lake Sumter. I have heard good data on that.

I have wondered since I read this post of yours from last month who these gals were;

https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-general-discussion-73/accosted-local-publix-293056/#post1656242

P.S. WHICH exact pool was it that the guy was wearing the thong? Asking for a friend. ;)

One good thing that has happened in more enlightened persons is the realization that body shaming is wrong. While generally this awareness is mostly about not shaming women about weight it also applies to men. Your comment is lacking in civility and etiquette while you are so busy being outraged by the behavior of others.

That's a hell of a generalization for all the problems you are citing. Seems there are a few snobs that hang out at the pools also. :icon_wink:

I politely disagree...…

An "HONEST" comment about an elderly gross dude that has a body weight of over 275 pounds, only 5 feet tall and also wearing a thong to a public swimming pool obviously can't see that he is morbidly obese. If only more uncivil persons such myself brought his physical appearance to his attention, then possible his life would be extended by suggesting a diet. Just my opinion....

:boom: From The Urban Dictionary :

"haters gonna hate"
A phrase used to acknowledge individual superiority in the face of negative external accusations. Can be repeated twice for emphasis. Often accompanied by a strutting walk away from offending party.

Let me take my comment into a different area and away from body shaming ............. During the winter I swim regularly very early in the morning, as the weather warmed up more and more elderly people came to the pool for their exercise. One morning a man blew his nose into the pool and yet another man hawked and spat into the pool. No more local pools for me. I now go to the sports pool when I want to swim, they have open hours.

We had our own pool for many years and no longer want either the cost or the bother so please do not suggest I get my own pool!

Correction:

I only weigh 262 and it was not a thong. It was a regular swimming suit, it was just a little jammed up there. I retrieved it.

The closer to the outskirts, the pools are subject to "poachers" not real residents of The Villages- flame on, it constantly happens--locals looking for a free pool

I snapped my Leopard Thong Last Summer and I was 275 Lbs. at birth. How dare you publically pass judgment on someone who is Calorically Challenged. There is nobody who doesn't have some kind of shortcoming. Maybe it would be best to work on your own whether visible or not instead of shaming others.

Many bigger people know the risks of being overweight and either can't or won't address the problem. It is my understanding that pointing out the problem could possibly shorten the life or decrease the health of the one pointing out Morbid Obesity.

The language would probably gotten worse if you pointed out everything you typed. I hope things go smoother for you shortly.

How did you bring his obesity to his attention and what did you say to him?

And how do you know that anyone is from the NE rather than the South, Midwest, Northwest, etc?

He had an MTA card, a 6 pack of Nathan hot dogs and a parking receipt from LaGuardia all stuffed into his thong...Need anymore proof!

Obviously the OP has never been to Europe and gone swimming. How about the cruise ships with folks from all nations? Thongs are prevalent in many beaches and pools of the world. Perhaps this man was someone's guest. Perhaps his wife adores her husband in a thong. I go to the pools to cool off, exercise and talk to others. I love living here in The Villages.

I have cruised countless times and the first thing I generally do is walk, no run-up to the top adult only deck to view the nude sun bathers. All I generally view are a bunch of semi-nude morbidly obese elderly Canadians in their thongs. I generally then leave the area and head-on to the Lido deck to drown my sorrow in the buffet. :ohdear::ohdear:

If you want to only view semi-nude folks who are not obese you don't need a cruise or swimming pool as there are plenty of video's and websites for that. Google is your friend. As one who (100+ lbs & 4 yrs ago) was in that physical condition I give them credit for not being concerned what people like you think. As much as I hate to quote this person remember "BEBEST".
