New Years in The Villages

My wife and I will be arriving December 28 and were curious as to "New Years Eve" celebrations. We will be in the north part on Sunnybrook Circle. Any ideas, as we know no one in The Villages?

I guess nobody has any ideas because most people will be in bed by 9 PM, including me.

The Villages celebrates at 9PM at the squares (seriously). Villages Law says the streets must be empty by 9:15. :D :D :D I always thought they would "push" it till 10PM on NY Eve for us younguns.

My wife and I had come down over Christmas break a few years back to check on the house we had bought but not moved into yet. After a day doing yardwork, we went into Sumter for dinner, forgetting that it was New Years Eve. While there were lots of groups at the various restaurants, we were able to fairly quickly snag a table at Cody's and ate there. After, we walked along the boardwalk and listened to some live music along with a fairly major crowd of people there. It was beautiful seeing the decorations and the Christmas lights on houses across the lake and we felt just bursting with happiness know that we'd be moving here in another year or so. We were gone by 8 PM or so as we were pooped by the days work. It didn't occur to us to stay for fireworks or whatever.

We've lived here 2 1/2 years now and have come to realize that The Villages definitely rolls up its sidewalks by shortly after 9 PM and that's just fine by us. I'ts non-stop activities here all day long, but it certainly stops around 9. We're not into fighting crowds for fireworks (or we'd go to a theme park for that) or major holiday celebrations (a couple of attempts to see the lighting of the Christmas tree as one or another of the squares cured us of that here). It also doesn't seem that The Villages goes for fireworks at any time of the year, even the 4th of July. Oh well. We're usually in bed by 10 anyway. I've got an early tee time! Or I want to get some laps in at the pool before the Water Aerobics class starts! Or I want to get some miles on the bicycle before the sun starts to pound! Or we want to go bird-watching at the nature trail at Fenney or at the Rose Weichens Preserve! Or... Well, let's say that morning activities are much bigger for us than evening ones.

Various clubs and social groups probably have their own private parties. Nothing generally is a Villages event, per se. As the others stated....maybe Orlando is where you should visit if you want some glitz.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they had a New Years Eve party at Rohan last year and we also had one at the Fenney Rec. Center. I don't remember what time it was over.

There are usually some dances at Lake Miona and Seabreeze recreational centers. One will be strictly ballroom and the other offers a more varied program. They shift back and forth each year.

Some folks with a history of hard drinking who are now sober refer to New Year's as "Amateur Night".

We have been going to City Fire in Lake Sumter for New Years Eve the last 3 years and always have a good time. They usually have a good band and they do bring in the New Year. They have a sit down dinner which has been good which includes some champagne. Your drinks are separate but are on happy hour prices. The price is $200.00 per couple and you would need to make a reservation.

A lot of Rec centers have New Year's parties. They fill up fast!

I think a lot of us here have a house party, if you can call it that! We, our little group, have a card night with dessert and a champagne toast. We do not very often make it to the New Year.
