She was a great lady -- great in every sense of the word.

I took a course called Black Women Writers in college. Toni Morrison was the professor's personal favorite. I remember reading Sula and writing a 2-page commentary on it for that class. She was a storyteller, not merely a fiction writer. We read Tar Baby during that course too, it had just been published a year or two prior.

She sounds intriguing! I will get at least one of her books to read, which one do you recommend?

I have only read Beloved. The movie based on it was quite a mess.

Reading “Tar Baby” Toni writes, “Son is a black fugitive who embodies everything she loathes and desires.” This guy, Son, a loser, is supposed to be the interest of a lady brought up in a cultured society. Give me a break!
Anyway the book makes for great summer reading.

Just read the essay on “Goodness” by her...”Evil has a blockbuster audience. Goodness lurks backstage.”
What a wonderful, articulate, insightful mind. She lifts up my spirit.
