I'm asking the Design Center but does anyone know if all/what elevations with gable roofs being built today qualify for the hip roof home insurance discount?

I clicked on your link to Kelly Roofing and nowhere did I see about adding longer clips to the roof. Looking at he difference between gable and hip roofs-apparently I have the gable roof. I purchased this home a few years ago and the previous owner had longer clips put onto the roof, longer than the standard which also makes it better to withstand the winds. I DID get a good discount from my insurance company for that. The inspector I had took photos of them and faxed the whole package to my insurance company. These are important things to know that can save you a decent amount of money.

A lot will depend on which version of the latest SBCCI wind mitigation code the county you are in has adopted. There is a substantial difference between a gable roof and a hip roof with regard to nail pattern/frequency, and blocking between joints in both the roof itself, and the adjacent sidewalls. Usually, the county building department will provide all the information you need.

I have 2 homes in TV (rentals). Same model - one with a hip roof, one with a Gable. The Hip is about $150 a year cheaper. I was told that was due to the roof.
