Palm Tree Disease Is In THE VILLAGES!

My beautiful sable palm will have to be cut down next week due to a disease called LETHAL BRONZING. Nothing can be done to save it once it starts to kill the tree.

Those insects infected area palms, which infected native treehoppers. The disease spread when winds blew infected bugs to new territories or they hitched rides on vehicles. Bahder said the palm cixiid is particularly attracted to white cars."

Also spread by trimmers who use a chain saw to trim with. If not sterilized between trees can spread disease from tree to tree and house to house.

There seems to be an antibiotic to prevent the tree from dying from this disease; however, at $50 every three months, how will TV respond? They put in a lot of new palms...or are these palms not susceptible to this particular bug?

Very true. That kind of thing is a vicious cycle everywhere and is not just limited to trimmers.

When you have weeds and some diseases popping up in your grass and shrubs, you can bet your bottom dollar the lawn peoples' equipment (mowers, etc.) is spreading the problems.

I remember the 3 hurricanes back in the early 2000's. Right after their occurrence a lot of the Sable Palms were affected and had to be cut down. Seemed to not affect other types, just the Sables.

I have to be honest. If our magnificent Palm Tree took the Big Ride to Palm Tree Heaven I wouldn't be upset at all. It's a maintenance issue that I don't really want. If it was smaller I'd give it away.

It would give us more room for about 20 Pink Flamingoes and or some Beautiful White Crosses. :1rotfl::1rotfl:
