View Full Version : What ever happened to Morse & B.V. resurfacing project?

It seems to have stopped dead. Maybe someone didn't pay the bill? Hmmm, I paid my taxes. :) Maybe they're working down on the south end and will meet in the middle? They seem to have repaved the parts of Morse south of 466 (and B.V.) that were in decent condition but they seem to have stopped at the worst part of Morse I have seen near Mallory CC which is still a mine field of patches and bumps. The first part got done real fast. Then I noticed the sign has been face down that says "Your taxes at work." :D

it is done. They resurfaced each road about 1 mile from 466 south.

Seriously? I thought Morse and B.V. were supposed to be resurfaced all the way up to CR44! Guess not. The resurfacing stopped about 100yds north of probably the most messed up patched rough area of Morse! They didn't do the Morse bridge either. LOL. Amazing.

Hey Ed F NJ, I found them. They are doing an emergency parking lot job from The Back Of The Sharon to the Veterans Monument. And a beautiful job it is. It really needed it badly! :1rotfl: Whatever, they got the place this far they must know what they are doing. They are very organized and polite compared to the contractors back in the Frozen Tundra. :1rotfl:

Do you mean the area close to the Morse bridge? I thought "they" would do that when "they" fixed the bridge. I will link you to the persons in charge. BRB.

I noticed that they were repaving those parking lots and wondered by LaGrande Blvd, which is full of potholes and a real mess was not done before a parking lot. I didn't think that the parking lot was that bad. It wasn't perfect, but compared to some of the streets in the historic district it was fine.

They'd done several streets over here, but seemed to have stopped in order to work elsewhere. As I said, LaGrande Blvd is one of the worst streets I've seen in The Villages.

I remember reading in the paper that the rest of Morse Blvd (to 466A) would be paved in November.

Are the parking lot repairs done by the developer who owns the squares? And the street repairs done by the county?

Repaving parking lots?

Or just fresh-coating/dressing/sealing which barely covers cracks.
More aesthetic than anything...makes them look pretty and new with the new stripes.

The Bridgeport at Lake Miona Rec center was done a couple of weeks ago. Definitely was not much more than sealing.....not re-paving.

:ho: The parking lots in question are being repaved. Just like Nucky said.

Milling the Parking lot and then Repaving. Doing the Job in the absolutely totally proper manner. This is after all where the Entire Dream Started. They were removing the old asphalt all the way up to the islands in the Parking Lots, a great job not any corners cut at all that I saw.

:ohdear: Squares are not owned by the developer. Owned by the CDDs. :ho:

Village Center CDD
Sumter Landing CDD or
Brownwood CDD

As for the street repair..... the person that is asking lives there and should know who owns them. Probably the Town of Lady Lake or Lake County. Also I won't think they would repave til they are finished with what ever construction is planed. (Post Office area)

I am referring to the 100 yards or so on each side of the O'Dell Circle near Mallory CC. It's an area that has been poorly patched at least 3 times in the 2 1/2 years I have been here. They ended just north of that between Stillwater and O'Dell by Mallory. Most of what they DID pave was already in excellent condition. We travel it 3-4 times a day. As for the bridge, I guess they will get to that when they get to that. ;)

If so, that is great. I knew I read something somewhere about more than what was done. I thought it was all the way up to CR44.

There is also another patch on Morse Blvd. near the RAB at Odell Circle South. Someone already posted that the paving is supposed to be completed in November. Hoping this is true as this section of roadway I just mentioned is really a mess of patches.

Found this on the black-site-news dot com. Hope it's wrong:

Resurfacing projects will begin soon on two heavily traveled sections of Morse and Buena Vista boulevards.
The Morse project will cover a distance of about 0.8 miles from County Road 466 to about 1,000 feet south of Stillwater Trail, including roundabouts and the Morse Boulevard Bridge.
On Buena Vista, resurfacing will be done on 1.25 miles of the road from 300 feet south of Lake Miona Drive to County Road 466A, including roundabouts.
Sumter County commissioners Tuesday approved contracts with D.A.B. Constructors, the lowest bidder on both projects, to complete the work. Three companies bid on the Buena Vista project and four on the Morse project.
D.A.B.’s bids were $1.05 million for Buena Vista and $848,889 for Morse.

If it's true, $2million bucks and they don't even fix the potholes!

My wife and I think the road surfaces in TV are fine.
Where I live in UK, out in the beautififull Cotswold boonies, our local council does not reckon a hole qualifies as a pothole until it is at least six inches deep.
I am thinking of trading my car in for some sort of tracked vehicle!

From the Sumter County website:
The two resurfacing projects were each split into two parts. On Sept. 17, the remaining parts were put out for bid. The deadline to submit bids is Oct. 18. The Selection Committee will meet on Oct. 22 to review the bids. The Selection Committee's recommendation will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Nov. 12.

1. Morse Boulevard Phase 2 from 1,000 Feet South of Stillwater Trail to SR 44.

2. Buena Vista Boulevard Phase 2 Rehabilitation from 300 Feet South of Lake Miona To North of C-44A Roundabout.

Thank you! May my rivers be dammed! I knew I heard/saw it somewhere. So it was done half-fast not all at once. :1rotfl: I Googled the heck out of it but came up with nothing other than the black-site article. I guess it will eventually be finished. If this first part of the job was $2mill this will probably be 5x that. Hopefully this was "guesstimated" as part of this years tax hike.

Thank you for this information. Good to know there is a phase 2 for both major roads and.....all the way to SR 44. That is great!

Does anyone know if Morse and Buena Vista have been previously resurfaced from CR466 to CR 466A and when? Reason for asking is that These roads from CR466 A to CR44 are quite a bit newer. Have they deteriorated faster than above CR 466 A?

Very good point. I was wondering about that too. I've traveled Morse to 44 a few times. South of 466A, Morse seems to be in very good condition, actually.

You certainly haven't ever been to Michigan. Then you would know what real 'mine fields' are like!

Roads over all in The Villages are fine. I’m from Michigan and the roads are the definition of bad. When I feel homesick I drive to the post office in the historic section to get my fix for potholes, but they’re just minor league.

I also agree.

But my agreement stems from being from Ohio, not Michigan. Are we allowed to agree on anything?!? :D

Last summer it was reported in village dot com forum that 466, 466A, BV and Morse were to be resurfaced in November and December, 2018. Seems those efforts were directed elsewhere.

Everything south of 466A is relatively new especially as you head further south so I don't understand the need (yet) to resurface those roads. Guess they have to spend the tax money. As long as it gets done NORTH of 466A up to where they ended near Mallory (less than a mile) it should be good. I guess they are waiting for the next infrastructure week at County Road HQ. :D

I think they need to be redone. I too am from Mi and one of the reasons I like TV so much is how good the roads are.

We were just over there and it appears that they just sealed and striped the parking lots. It doesn't appear to have been resurfaced.

Where I live, you knew when the road gangs were coming to do the patching. A few days before work started, a surveyor came and sprayed a white ring around any hole deep enough to warrant a repair.

I have no idea how many others had the same idea as my neighbor and I, but we bought a can of white spray, and one evening went to town around the area spraying the lesser holes they missed out!
Think the idea was general in many areas, as they now mark, and number the holes in sequence, and photograph them at same time!!

You obviously haven't been up to the Historic District lately. I agree that most of the roads in The Villages are fine and I'm wondering what all the fuss is about Morse and Buena Vista. I travel those roads daily and I see very little problems.

However, La Grande Blvd where the Post Office is, is a mess and several other streets up here are in need of resurfacing.
