Well gang it's getting closer as there's only 20 days more until "C Day". So continuing to try and get our ducks in order we're coming to you to talk trash and recycling. We'll be P.T.er's in Pennecamp on Ashwood Run and we would like to know the rules to live by regarding how, when and where:
1. Does anyone have the schedule for pick up?
2. Are trash and recycling the same day?
3. What containers are used?
Based on other posts I've read I won't even get into the holiday pickup schedule. It would be easier to just take it home with us in our suitcase:1rotfl:
Thanks again for all your help.

P.S. Can you mix your recyclables or do they have to be separate ie. glass, aluminum, tin, plastic?

Trash is picked up twice a week and recyclables are picked up once a week. Greens collection is once a week. Here's how it works....trash pickup on your first day, greens on Wednesday, trash and recyclables on your second trash pick up day. Here in Caroline it's Monday and Thursday for trash and recyclables. In Sable Chase it's Tuesday and Friday.

Now, what days are yours in Pennecamp, I don't know, but here's info on how you put out your trash.

Normal trash is put into plastic trash bags. Some days I use the large 33 gallon black ones, other days when I have little trash, I use the kitchen trash can ones. Recyclable materials are to be put out in clear trash bags. You have to make sure there is absolutely no other color on the bag, for instance, some clear bags have a red drawstring.....not the right kind of bag. Depending on what you could recycle where you currently live, you'll find it a bit different here. Not all plastics are recycled. Greens go out in large paper "greens" bags you can buy at the hardware store, grocery store, Sam's Club. Palm fronds can just be left whole with the greens and they'll be picked up.

Took just a short time to get used to not having hard containers for trash or recycling materials, but with plastic bags, once all the trash is picked up, you don't have trashcans sitting out till someone puts them away.

Some people here will put out some of their trash in plastic bags. I can't tell you the number of times I have seen trash scattered all over their yard because someone did not properly restrain their dog. I assume that dogs roaming the neighborhoods is not a problem in TV.

I have yet to see a dog roaming free anywhere in my neighborhood or any place I've been in TV. Many, many, many people walking dogs on leashes. I just imagine if there was a dog off-lease, someone would pick it up and post on here until the owner was found. It is like Disney World. There isn't any trash.

You must not have read the "Our Place" column in today's Recreation News.

We like to think The Villages is like Disney, but it's not perfect. And people who do the things described in this article are not good neighbors.

I have lived here 10 years. I have never had trash scattered. Where do you live? There must be a problem in that area.

I have had several instances where some animal comes along at night and pokes a hole in the plastic bag and strews some of the insides in the yard. I usually just pick it up an put it back in the bag if I am early enough (and I usually am since I get my papers at 6 AM).

If it happens a few times in a row I spray the bag with ammonia when I put it out.

When I play golf with my husband and he makes remarks like that I tell him he's old enough to be their father!!

Skip2MySue Hi,
Waited for someone to give me call about taking pictures for you, guess you found someone. We have been watching your house go up as we drive by to our customer on Ashwood Run.
What a great feeling to have a new home built in TV.
Smile And Be Happy !!!!!!Mary

Thanks Mary for the picture offer. We have 2 couples that were friends 40 years ago that live in TV. They offered to keep track during the building process and also our agent sent us photo's which kept us on the edge of our seats with a running account as the house went up. The house is now complete and waiting for us to show up on July 7th to close. Many thanks for your offer.

We have raccoons in our neighborhood in Virginia Trace. Sometimes they find the chicken bones in the trash, even though I double wrap the bones. :icon_hungry: Or maybe I shouldn't blame the raccoons... We also have wild kitties.

There are also coyotes, possums, skunks, and wild cats. DH sprayed the outside of the bags with ammonia, but now sprays inside before sealing and again outside and it's stopped whatever critter was tearing the bags and making a mess.
