I was very fortunate to have been in charge of the part of the motorcade behind the secret service portion many times, and several times in the Police car that is always in the front during events with President H.W. Bush.

We were on the second hole at Tierra Del Sol on Tuesday when two Marine One helicopters and four or five Osprey aircraft flew right over us. Very loud and impressive. Looks like there will be troops supporting this visit, as well as Secret Service.

I saw those on my way to see Peanut Butter Falcon at the Rialto on Tuesday. They were flying around in some kind of pattern.

Did all of the school busses and large tractor trailer around Spanish Springs Town Square have anything to do with this?

Fox Channel 35 on Good-day Orlando had a crew at Spanish Springs. I don't think they really researched what was happening before going on the air. There was about 50 people in front of the Rialto, and they said people are lining up to see the President. I think it was a crowd to go to the movies. Why would the Sharon crowd be over blocking the theater entrance at 9:00 AM when he doesn't speak until 1:30? They didn't even show the Sharon.

They did show in front of Toojays about 5 protestors holding signs, said they were from the Villages Democratic Club. They said there will be a jumbo screen in the square and you can see the speech outside if you don't have an invite.

Are they (security) keeping the crowds in the square thin? I'm watching the webcam of the square and now (at 12:38PM) it looks like there are bigger crowds during Happy Hour when Johnny Wild is playing. I expected wall to wall people.

When it is an invite only in a place like The Sharon why would anybody waste their time to crowd around and try to get a glimpse of Trump.

Like all the major performers he will arrive and depart away from the possible masses.

There is no amassing of crowds as there will be nothing/nobody to see.

My guess would be if Trump were to have one of his rally time appearances he, like Bush did, would attract huge crowds. There would be a real reason to attend and participate. I also think the invite only venue was a poor choice for The Villages. And I am not sure whose preference that reflects.....Trumps or....?....

Anyway the lucky few will represent the wishes of the rest of us.

I would have to assume The White House made the decision for it to be invite only as it was not supposed to be a campaign appearance although it did go off the rails a little bit. I doubt they asked The Villages what they preferred.

As for crowds, comparing the arrival of "The Drifters" or even Jay Leno :) to ANY President of the United States is a bit off. My feeling about the orange guy aside I wouldn't mind watching all the cool stuff (protesters, weirdos, sharpshooters, Secret Service, motorcades, helicopters etc) that surrounds any presidential visit no matter who it was which is what surprised me that it wasn't as crazy as I expected. From what I understand they did have big screens outside The Sharon for the 10's of thousands to view the speech.

There were warnings about closed roads, traffic etc. so "IF" (and I don't know for sure) there were "smaller" crowds and all that goes with them, maybe that was why. I personally stay away from such events as I don't care for crowds. That said...I saw what it looked like inside The Sharon and it looked pretty crowded in there to me.

At 3:00PM I headed on Morse Blvd to my appt at Santa Barbara office of United Healthcare-They would not let you through the gate as you had to make a u-turn before the gate and back the other way on Morse.I can see not allowing you to go right to Spanish Springs but why not left at the round about and on to El Camino away from Spanish Springs-at the least at Rio Grande there should have been a sign saying local traffic only-no entrance to Spanish Springs

The dog and I were out cruising the area after the speech. Our goal was to get over to the Polo Fields. Nope! Made it to the Savannah Center parking lot. Buena Vista and El Camino (including the MMPs) we’re closed until the motorcade passed. There were a few people driving up in carts that had been at Spanish Springs. They must have came the “back way”. A couple was trying to get to Glenview for golf. I bet they missed their tee time.

Later, we heard helicopters and saw shadows cross our solar tube. The outbound helicopters flew right over the house.

Most likely there was no traffic allowed on El Camino as it was for the dedicated use of the motorcade before and during the Presidential visit. Probably opened again after the Marine 1 lift off.

Too bad. We got there at about 11. Found a seat in front of MVP and were planning on moving our chairs over in front of Demshars when he started speaking so we could see the big screen. About 1230 they came by and said all the ticketed people were in and they were now allowing others in. Sat in the balcony right in the center and saw the whole thing with no whistling from disrespectful neighbors here in TV.

There were many, at least a dozen people walking down the street past Flippers still calling out their thoughts on Megaphones while the Megatron TV and speakers were being interrupted by these people exercising their right to free speech. It was another day In The Villages. The majority of the people we observed were just enjoying the experience quietly and respectfully.

When we came over the Golf Cart Bridge and saw the line up of School Buses and the massive amount of humanity trying to find their way up towards the square we considered turning around. The parking lots we saw were fully packed. It was a nice experience. We will be there for any and all Presidents who honor our home with their presence.

It must have been something once it was time to leave. All those cars in all those parking lots and everyone want's to be first. We left early.

The size of the crowd was considerable but to us, the only thing that matters about the crowd is that we were there.

I am grateful that people like you and Priscilla are part of my world. None of us agree all of the time and sometimes some on this Forum become upset and angry with each other.

Please stop, think, and read between the lines.

I can see a plan behind the “plan” that sure looks to me like this can easily lead to the total privatization of Medicare, thus turning total control of your healthcare over to insurance companies that can hold you hostage, by stonewalling your freedom to choose how and where and with whom you want your care.

Advantage plans, though the cost to the consumer is the most reasonable, are highly profitable for insurance companies.

This thing sure looks like it will lead to yet another golden egg laid — though not to the benefit of those who like choice, like having their Medicare as primary with a Plan F as secondary. Plan F is the most expensive supplement, but if serious health issues happen, the coverage takes care of everything and you do not have to try to navigate networks.

Plan F is going away after this year except for those who are grandfathered in. I have heard that plan G is also good and less expensive because of a relatively small deductible. (I think that’s right about plan G but I do not know the details for sure. I do completely understand Plan F though.)

I recognize that the lower premiums of an advantage plan are important to many seniors. That is their choice.

But I do not want my choice taken away, my choice of a mix of Medicare and a supplement.

I realize my opinion will be dismissed by most posters here, but I hope some may take a step back, take a close look, and think ahead about how quick a leap it can be from this order to total privatization of Medicare. It is is a slippery slope. (And speaking of slippery, I sure hope that we don’t see each other on the ice floes where I will have to weakly wave and whisper, “I told you so.”)

Please give my thoughts some thought.

Boomer

Government run health insurance predates Obama by around 40 years. Medicare was created in 1965. It IS, by definition, government-run health insurance.

Most seniors benefit from it, and the vast majority of seniors have already paid into it, whether they use it or not.
