We are leaving our dear Springfield 7/2. We are also leaving behind some amazing doctors. Since we will have new medical insurance, we will need to line up new doctors right away to have our prescriptions filled. We would like the names of a female and a male family practitioner. Also, if there are ones to avoid please let us know. The phone #s would also be helpful.

As you all know, it is all this last minute detail "stuff" that can be overwhelming. All of the advice so many of you have posted about life in TV has been so helpful to us as we get ready to make this humongous jump. We hope to meet some of you once we get there. One of our favorite sayings is, "There are no strangers, only friends we haven't met."

Thanks for your help, David and Teri Neff :-)

Welcome to you. I can only imagine how much stress you are feeling right now. Soon it will be past and you will be somewhere pretty special with some friendly new folks to smile at you. I hope to be one of them.

We are still only part time and I don't know of a doctor to recommend, but someone published a link to Florida M.D.'s on here a while back, so hopefully they will read this and do it again. This link gave very complete information on doctors in the state of Florida.

Was it you Russ Boston?

Hi,

I copied many of the links concerning medical professionals in the TV area from previous posts. You may have to cut and paste into your browser to make them work. Hope these are helpful in your search.

FL MEDICAL BOARD:

List of Physicians: http://leesburgregional.photobooks.com/pdf_results/leesburgregional.pdf

The Villages Hospital and Leesburg Regional Medical Center are affiliated with each other.

The map at this link shows the location of all the medical and professional plazas. The names of each plaza are links that will show more details of each plaza.

This site contains a comprehensive list of medical and health service providers.

We are not in TV yet, so unfortunately, I cannot make any recommendations. Good luck in your search!

Keep in mind that there are plenty of Urgent Care facilities in the area, that in my opinion do a great job and provide a long list of medical needs. I've been using Paramount Urgent Care / 352-674-9218, located in Sante Fe Crossroads on 466. I have blood work done there and as a result get all my scripts called in.
Have a safe journey and welcome to the good life in TV

On your upcoming move...

Another thought would be to see or call your docs there in Springfield one last time and ask for scripts to last a few months to a year (if they know you well and or if you've been seen recently they may write you scripts without an office visit)...then you would have plenty of time to find new docs in TV even if you needed an appointment sooner...depending on your medical conditions, of course...New docs, as a rule, won't write scripts without an office visit exam first... that of course is in your best interest and in their best interest as well. What to do about scripts up north???...you can always take them to a Walgreens or CVS up North and also have them filled at that same type of pharmacy in another state when new refill is needed. Of course, mail-in pharmacies will need to be notified of new addresses if that is what is used. Just a few thoughts as I am a nurse and am confronted with many of our patients going to Florida.

there are as many bad ones here as good ones; be careful. However, you really won't know what you have until you take it out for a test drive, unfortunately. a lot are attracted by the number of potential patients here ($$$$$$$$$$), rather than a desire to "make the world a better place". Talk fast because in 10 minutes they will be pushing you out the door. If they don't look at you when you are talking, but rather are typing notes in the computer, then RUN! Most of them like the science, not the people.

Most folks go by word of mouth to find their providers here. But don't jump on the 1st name(s) that come as what one finds to be "good" another wouldn't. I felt very blessed to have found a nurse practioner as my primary, by the name of Sylvia Wallace, ARNP, whose in the Lady Lake Family Medicine practice on 466 just past Rolling Acres Rd. With her is Dr.John Burress, D.O. #259-7994. I've seen both and have been very happy. They don't rush you through so you feel like a number and it's a very friendly office.

Another provider I've heard is good---but haven't seen---is Dr. Kalpana Desai, M.D. She too is a family practioner and is on Old Camp Rd., Lake Sumter Landing and this is golf-cart accessable Her # is 259-6949..

Before coming down get "hard copies" of all your meds to bring with you. If you're going to be "snow flakes" perhaps choosing a pharmacy that's national, like Walgreens would be a great choice then all your info is easy to obtain no matter where you are.

Also I want to concur with the other post that talked about Urgent Care facilities here. Paramount is a great one...it's the one on 466. You can go there for most issues that are "daily run of the mill" issues...such as sinus infections, flu, injuries...nothing that would be Life Threatening!

Best wishes with your move and assimulating into LIFE here in The Villages!!
