Cats should never be allowed to roam outside for their own safety but I also thought it was against TV rules to let pets go outside without a leash?

Catch in your yard in a have-a-heart trap, take it to your neighbor in the trap and tell her the next time it goes to the pound. Won't hurt the cat and I think she'll get the point.

Here in UK most all cats roam free, and clearing up is part of a gardeners life.
However, a VERY powerful water pistol is a handy tool.
Does not harm the cats when it hits them, and being smarter than the average animal they soon get the message, and relocate.
.....and of course there is the fun using it!

Let your dog out next time you see the cat in your yard. The cat would either hightail it back over the fence or it could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Today I saw my neighbors cat use my back yard as a litter box, I'm in a CYV so this included coming over the wall. I watched it dig a hole and do its business, I wondered why my dog was rolling around in that spot. When I asked my neighbor about it she said I've seen it walk the wall but I thought it went to the bathroom in my yard. There was no commitment to do anything about it. Who should I report this to? Animal control, community standards, would they need to catch it loose outside, I have pictures of it on the wall.
Perhaps, even though she did not verbalize a commitment, she will take steps to prevent this from happening again.

This is exact reason I enjoyed moving to The Villages. Unfortunately with so much crime and violence occurring throughout this country, I can come home to The Villages and read about how "displaced cat urine" is a concern...:mademyday::mademyday::mademyday:

Well, as an owner of an extremely automated home, I would just have the sprinklers for that zone come on when the cat tripped the motion detector. It will only take 2-3 times before I never saw that cat again
On the lower tech side isn't there a cat repellent you can spread where it wi be effective?

Scarecrow sprinkler not expensive Amazon, motion sensitive, just attach hose. Worked so well on neighbor’s cat he wouldn’t get off the fence for his favorite treats.

I agree wit h the,day from the UK. When I grew up most cats went outdoors, it was life. People also complain about geese. I guess they never went camping or enjoyed the real outdoors. It seems like such a little thing, life is sometimes messy... but what a wonderful world.

the dog rolled where the cat went potty.. that would upset me, and obviously why it upset the original poster... other than that, the whole world is a cat's toilet..

Cats that are allowed outdoors have a life expectancy of ~ one year. With proper vet care (and kept inside) many cat are living to 18 or 20+ nowadays.

There are dog people and kitty people and some are the same. That would be us. At this time we are only owned by cats.
We love the two who share our space and critique my art work. They stay safely inside with a nice big birdcage to roam too.
They make our life so much softer. This is Bootsie. We want him and Mikey to live for a long time so we keep them inside.
Don't blame a cat for being a cat.

That statement is a little misleading. Should have added 'due to predators.'
Here in UK all the moggies we have had, have roamed free, and lived to a ripe old age. (Except the one who played with cars!)
Only serious predators here are the foxes, but they usually give the cats a wide birth. Cats fight back, as many a one eyed fox will agree!
Badgers can be a problem if confronted, but our cats, being rural cats, are smart, smell them a mile off, and give them a wide birth.

Our Siamese is 17, the two cats we had on our boat lived to 17 & 18--keep them indoors, they'll have a much better life

None of our old cats would have agreed with that statement, but then, they had a choice!

In Ohio, and Indiana, when we were younger, our cats came in and out and enjoyed the suburban areas we lived in. Now they stay inside. It takes three of us and the constant cleaning and vacuuming to keep the quarters tidy. Most days we think they are worth all the effort, and then they will push an old favorite vase off the counter...………….and smile.
;)
We do place towels on their favorite places to sit. Helps a little.

Off topic---are you the ones moving back to the UK that have the furnished house for sale by The Villages?

Nope.
We are arriving in two weeks for our regular winter stay to boost the numbers, clog up, and ruin the golf courses, save seats on the squares, drive the wrong way round roundabouts, park badly, and in general have a great time! :icon_wink:

Fox hunting is now banned, and their numbers rose quite quickly.
Most foxes are now urban as the food pickings are easier, than in the countryside where food resources dwindled due to the numbers.
Most of the anti-hunt brigade were in the cities anyway, so let them sort out what they wished for.
Leave us country bumkins alone!

Our cat was always an outdoor cat and lived to be 17. I suppose if you live on a really busy street, cars might be an issue.

What? No widespread, over-the-top uproar about cats pooping in people‘s yards? No calls to lynch the owners? As a responsible dog owner, I think I am offended. <just kidding and stirring the pot a bit. í ¾í´£ >

We had an outdoor cat back in the 60’s named Butch. He ruled the neighborhood. Even dogs gave Butch a clear path.
