We have Verizon but are thinking of switching to AT&T cellphone. Has anyone had problems with coverage with AT&T? We live near Sumter Landing. Thanks in advance!

I have AT&T and have had several dropped calls recently just north of 466A. Don't know if it was an anomaly or a continuing problem with ATT Service. I do know that when you get off the Interstates and away from larger metropolitan areas, Verizon beats AT&T hands down. Their map commercials are right on target.

We bought a lot in Pennecamp on Eldridge Loop. I went out before we signed the papers to see what coverage we had. With Verizon, it was great with nearly 4 bars. We have three of us on the plan. My wife will keep her current number so our 'old' friends in Texas will have a local number to call. I will get a new Florida number so our 'new' friends will be able to call me as a local number. We figure not everyone has a nationwide plan and some of our friends, god forbid, still work and call us from that phone.

I live and Duval and have not had any problem with Verizon. We have had friends visit with AT&T and they had to use our phone because there's would not hold a signal.

AT&T is useless at Mallory Square.
After many phone calls I learned that mergers reduced the coverage of AT&T in this and many parts of Florida.

We live in Hemingway and have no problem with Verizon. My neighbor has AT&T and I always see him outside on his cell phone because service in the house is so bad. Even outside he has dropped calls. However, his kids are on his plan and want the iPhone, so he just installed a special receiver in his house which routes his calls through the internet. I haven't spoken with him since he did this to find out how he likes it.

Chuck - That's good to hear. My wife and I are both on Verizon and really don't have any plans to switch. I would love to get a Droid, but just can't justify the extra "required" messaging plan or whatever they call it. See you soon neighbor.

We have Verizon and have no problems. Our son and his wife have AT&T. They were driving from Tavares to TV Wednesday evening and reception from their phone to our home phone was terrible. The kids say they have some trouble in this area with AT&T.
Had Sprint in CA and found that there were many areas where service was poor or non-existent. Switched to Verizon and the improvement was amazing. Just kept it when we moved here.

No problem with AT&T for me. My scattered family all have it so with free mobile to mobile it makes sense for me.

Verizon and At&T. I didn't have problems with either one. I switched to At&T because they were more flexible when I wanted to change their plans and they have rollover minutes. I use AT&T now and have no problems. Mostly in Amelia and LSL.
I think they both have about the same coverage. AT&T was more flexible. We could go from 900 to 450 minute plans at any time and not be locked in to either one.

Interesting. I am in Mallory also (off of Murphys Estate) and do not have an issue with AT&T or Verizon wireless. My AT&T phone is for work and is a some model of Black Berry.

We've had Verizon for many years and are very satisfied. My son switched to ATT because he bought the iphone. Drops calls all the time. Don't know if it's the iphone or ATT but it drives me crazy when he calls.

Thanks to all who have responded. It sounds like the AT&T coverage is spotty, so we've decided to stick with Verizon for now since it works well for us. Again, thanks!

I use Verizon Wireless at our home in Mallory with no issues. See my earlier post.....
I am not in TV now, but have used Verizon for the past three winters.

We live in Pennecamp and haven't yet switched from Sprint which worked well in Ohio. But in TV, I have to stand outside my home to even have a chance of getting one bar. Plan on switching to Verizon after we move permanently

No problem in Amelia or Bonita with Verizon - great coverage. Friends have AT&T in Sabal Chase and their calls don't work well in house......hope this helps.

Does anyone use Mingo? They were using a Verizon platform but are switching to Sprint. Cost is very low but I am unsure about Sprint coverage. Are there other resellers who use Verizon?

My AT&T cellular reception is almost worthless. New SIM cards, upgraded phones and installation of a microcell tower in my home as not helped at all. I shall be switching for sure!

Since the last post in this thread almost a year ago, I understand that AT&T were putting in a tower about now, and two more planned in the next six months.
I have just purchased an iPhone 4S with Verizon and getting about 0.5 MBs average download speed (faster at night and slower than this during the day), which is about half of what I was expecting to get.
I know that many posts have said that Verizon is the best below LSL, but I was wondering if there has been any improvement with AT&T with the new tower. Also, the new iPhone is supposed to take advantage of AT&Ts HSPA+ network, which should also give it a faster speed.
I would be interested in talking with any iPhone 4 or 4S owners with AT&T coverage below LSL to see what kind of speed you get before I commit to the Verizon iPhone and buy another as well.

I am an AT&T retiree and have had AT&T cellular service forever. When we moved to TV (Pennecamp), service was very unsatisfactory, and we changed to Verizon. Their service has been great, even though I lost ny discount as an AT&T retiree.

I had AT&T but had to change to Verizon because when with AT&T lost some communication due to the winds. Apparently when it got too windy every time I lifted my blanket the smoke disperse too quickly and couldn't get high enough to be seen:wave:

I live in Largo and use AT&T and the service is lousy. I have complained many times and I do not believe a new tower will be operational before next March. I got this date after going up their management chain several times and getting a consistent response.

I don't understand what happened. Last year we had good service with AT&T. This year we can't get incoming or make outgoing calls. Wonder what is going on.

AT&T has real problems in The Villages and they know it but are doing little to correct it. They are going to install a tower on Cherry Lake which should help but that will not be a cure all for their problems. Even that tower will not go on line much before the 2nd or 3rd Qtr of 2012? I am surprised no one from Winifred did not respond as I understand in some ares in that Village they have very poor service from AT&T. Of course the general attitude of a large Co. like this is "they [customer] should do what they want, (e.g go to another carrier if they so wish). They will say they need someone to offer property to install a tower and they will pay rental, etc. This would lead to a conclusion that The Villages should contact them, offer a space for the tower, (the Villages will be paid rental, etc) and help the residents solve this problem. These problems are not hidden from AT&T as they can look at a map and say exactly where there is poor or no cell reception.

Live in Tamarind Grove and previously Pennecamp. Had Sprint in both and service was equally bad- totally unacceptable. Many lost calls. Also looking for advice on better coverage in those areas:cus:

AT&T sucks. I dropped them a few months ago. When I called them to tell them I wanted to terminated my contract early (incurring an extra and unfair charge), my call to them was dropped three times.
Verizon is much much better.

"Location, location, location". We have AT&T service......and it sucks wind big-time in Duval (just north of Odell off Buena Vista). I've got to stand out in the driveway on one foot holding up a roll of aluminum foil on a perfectly clear day to get reception (slightly exaggerated, of course...but you get the picture! :D ). When we're at other locales in TV, the service ranges from non-existent to 4 bars - it's all over the map.
Not a huge deal to us right now given that we're snowflakes. But when we get to the point of spending more time down there, we're hoping more towers will have been installed.
Here's an article that touts a seemingly viable alternative to traditional cell towers. Sounds like it would be perfect for an environment like TV:

Angie called AT&T and we got a free MicroCell from AT&T. We get 5 bars all the time now at home - even in the basement. Before the MicroCell we used our phones at home as paper weights. :coolsmiley:

Had ATT when we first got down here. Service was horrible. Switched to VZ no problems. My neighbor has ATT has to stand in driveway or go out in her backyard by the pond to talk.

We had ATT when we moved to the Village of Springdale. No service inside the house at all. Some service outside. We had several months left on our contract and ATT had no desire to work with us when we complained that we were paying for a service we couldn't get. Went to Verizon 9 years ago and have had wonderful service since, traveling up North or in The Villages, never had a call dropped or no service. We would never go back to ATT!
