those tiles are very destructive in a hurricane or sever wind storm, tornado. I think they are resposible for a lot of damage.

I know on previous post, member warned that they are not allowed in Texas but here is another view on tile:

Concrete roof tile has been used for centuries worldwide, and for good reason. Concretetile roof is not only beautiful, but also extremely durable. With proper building design and installation, tile roofs can last 50 to 100 years or more. They do not rot in wet climates and are not susceptible to destruction by pests. They can be used in any climate or region and can withstand the severest weather conditions, including fire, wind and snow. For these reasons, most roof tile manufacturers offer warranties of at least 50 years and in some cases a lifetime-limited warranty

:agree:
In Punta Gorda Isles, post Hurricane Charley, the tiles have been replaced with a tile-lookalike metal roofing.

Correctly installed concrete roof tiles should not fly off the roof in a wind storm. I have them on my current home in Hawaii and they are rated to withstand wind speeds higher than most all typhoons. They are both heavy and nailed to the wood support strips below with ring shank nails. If you get hit by a tornado, the roof tiles will be the least of your worries.
