We just closed on our house this week and during move in we were told that there is no recycling and to put all of our garbage in white or black bags.

TV recycling plan is in the process of reorganization, but in the meantime recycling is still happening. Check Sanitation Information (https://www.districtgov.org/community/sanitation.aspx) for recycling info in your district.

When I was looking for them at Winn Dixie recently, I could not find them with the other plastic garbage bags. I asked an employee for help and she showed me where they were all by themselves near the other end of the aisle. I just shook my head.
So, if you don’t see them near the opaque tall-kitchen bags, ask for help.

I understand Fenney and that area do not have recycling unless you take it yourself to a recycling center.

I've been buying these for about five years from Walmart, even the Walmart Neighborhood store has them, but you have to look. Twenty 30 gallon bags for $2.62, that's hard to beat. I keep the recycling can in the kitchen pantry. I also get the 39 gallon bags, 10 in a box to use for newspapers which I store in the garage in a plastic tub.

As far as recycling, yesterday in Tamarind Grove they made two trips as usual on Thursday. One trip for garbage and later for recycling.

And if you buy at Lowes and are a veteran, you will receive a discount. If that's the case tell the clerk when you check out.

I would think that most people would do a Google search for clear plastic bags, before asking on this forum where to buy them. A search easily locates them.
So, to me, asking a question like that on this forum is questionable use of the forum.
But then, we do have all the "I agree" posts and like......
I don't think that the rude "DUH" comment was necessary. Part of today's world problems might be that people feel that social media makes it OK to say any and all thoughts. What happened to the rule of "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Should apply no matter how you are communicating. JMO

Speaking of recycling, and since I don't know how to create a new post/thread... Does anyone have a sure fire proven method to keep critters away from the garbage bags that are left out? Once upon a time, spraying with ammonia worked, but apparently there are now scavengers that are ammonia-proof. What works?

I totally disagree with you. For one thing, googling recycle bags is not going to tell you everyone in The Villages who carries them. At least not without clicking on individual stores and doing another search. My Google search came up with only one clear answer and a bunch of stuff that's not really a recycle bag. So unless you're going to Walmart, you're going to miss Publix, Ace Hardware, and others who might carry them.
This forum is for helping others as well as getting and giving opinions. People ask for this kind of help all the time, and nobody objects. At least, not until now.

The OP did not ask where to buy them specifically in The Villages, nor did he/she ask for every location in TV who carries them.
A Google search for "clear recycling bags" shows both local and online retailers...Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes. The link for each is an easy click away.
But yes, much easier to ask others than helpee-selfee.

Perhaps the OP did not specifically ask What Store, but I think the intent was pretty clear. And my Google Search came up with Walmart. All the other stores listed were showing things other than clear recycling bags. Some were blue. Some were lawn bags. Some were tall kitchen can bags. Etc.

LOL! I think some people are "overthinking" this. :D Don't look specifically for RECYCLING BAGS because they generally aren't labeled that way. The boxes we have always bought in Walmart, SAMs, Co***o or Publix are simply labeled labeled "15 Gallon KITCHEN BAGS" :D Sometimes they are marked CLEAR and other times you have to look at the photo on the box. Some towns require clear bags for ALL garbage, recycling or otherwise, so if they labeled them all "recycling" some folks would thing they will be arrested for using them for garbage or to store clothes and they wouldn't sell. :) These are from Sam's and nowhere do they say "clear" or "recycling." Just have to look at the picture on the box.

What is "ENERGY FROM WASTE"? South of 44 is the only area that has that symbol listed on the Sumter Sanitation Schedule.

There is a dark red "button" centered left to right on the page and just above all the listed threads. That same dark red "button" is also located on the left side of the page just below the list of all the threads. Click on either of those "buttons" to start a new thread. It's very easy to do.

:ohdear: Not my site...... I would call the District. I just linked the info.
It says:
All waste is transported to the Covanta Energy
From Waste Plant. Household waste is turned into
electricity, which powers homes locally. Sanitation
services are provided by cleaner and quieter
collection vehicles powered by Compressed National
Gas engines. Our collection vehicles provide
minimal noise and cleaner emissions
enhance and protect our environment. By
having more efficient services it reduces
carbon footprint, reduces wear and tear
on roads, less fuel is used, and minimizes
traffic in your quiet neighborhood.

Thanks for the info. This sounds like a more proper use for recyclables versus shipping them to China.

So.....south of 44 has the new and improved waste management system. Thank you for the information. Electricity from household waste sounds like Doc Brown from "Back to the Future" powering his Delorian. WOW!

Quite ironic that asking for help from others on the site is "questionable use of the forum," but taking the time and making the effort to criticize...isn't.
Which, of course, begs the obvious question of..."what is the proper use of the forum and who gets to determine such?" :ohdear:

Wondering if "Waste to Energy" will be the process for all The Villages in the future, not just south of 44.

Waste Management (the name of the company) is known for this. The Phoenix Open is sponsored by Waste Management, who does ALL the trash pickup and recycling for this golf tournament. It is a ZERO waste event; 100% of all trash is converted to electricity, recycled into other products, or composted (depending on the trash). 700,000 people worth of participants, visitors, sponsors, vendors, employees, and so on - producing all that trash, and it is ALL converted.
They do some of this here in the Villages. So if you see a WM truck picking up your garbage, it's a good thing. It means that at least some of the trash will be converted (some of it still ends up in a landfill in Georgia).

In Lake County you can get a sturdy plastic recycling tub, marked just for the purpose. Waste Management recognizes them. You can put your recycling stuff in ANY bag, including paper bags, or even small boxes (the empty boxes that contained all those garbage bags you bought on sale, empty cereal boxes will hold a week's worth of cat food cans, the bag you get from Outback Steakhouse take-out or Firehouse Subs will hold a week's worth of daily newspapers, for example). And then put those bags in the recycling tub and set the tub out on the appropriate corner of your lawn on the appropriate day. It's not a big tub but it will hold all your week's recycling just fine.
The clear plastic bag thing is for Waste Management, so they know that the stuff in the bag really is recycling and not garbage. The plastic recycling tub serves the same purpose but is much more hygienic and less unattractive.

The North Sumter County Utility Dependent District (NSCUDD) will hold a Special Workshop on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at the SeaBreeze Recreation Center (Destin/Clearwater Rooms) to review and discuss the long-term Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) to address the disposal of solid waste and recycling.
