Where do u start when looking? Are their warehouses nearby with tons to look at? Do u have to use the store u purchase from to install??

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to buy a piece of granite and then hire someone else to cut it and install it. There are lots of good granite and quartz contractors on other threads on this website. Do a search. But, if you want to just look at samples to start, go to Home Depot. Personally, I prefer quartz over granite, and I think it is becoming more popular. A lot of the new houses have quartz, and you can see them at open houses every day.

I did see some posts about who some people used but no comments really about a large warehouse that u can browse them. Home depot and Lowes offer a small quantity to choose from and we do not want to use them after some bad previous experiences

Ultimate Granite, 452 Rolling Acres Rd, Lady Lake, Florida 32159, claims to have 10,000 slabs in stock, but I don't know anything about their work.

I have quartz counter tops. Home depot and Lowes have 2x2 inch samples, which was large enough for me, because the pattern doesn't change.

I am very happy with quartz and am planning to put into my next home.

Our stone came from this supplier, when we needed matching stone, we were able to find it there, HOWEVER, they do NOT cut or install. We contacted home warranty, got the name of the original installer, and told them what we wanted. They got the correct stone, cut it to size, and polished, I did the install.

We just replaced our formica counter tops with quartz. We went to quite a few places but in the end used Duncan Stone in Tavares.

We shopped around for 2 months. Took home samples, Stratton came out & took measurements. We got a good price @ Stone Rise. We chose Cambria Quartz countertops! Love them :)

We loved Stone Central and working directly with the owner and, in my opinion, the best stone guy in the world, Phil Shibler. We had our countertops replaced with quartzite, which is a natural stone similar to granite but harder than granite. Quartz is a manmade product where quartzite is the natural stone. Phil is the best there is with any stone product or stone composite: granite, quartz, quartzite, etc. Here is his website. He is located in Wildwood: Home (http://www.stonecentralinc.com/)

Classic Rock in Leesburg, definitely worth the drive. 1000s of selections, great quality and reasonably priced. They have from low grade to high. You pick out your own slabs too They do it all!

Ultimate granite has the most granite and all the grades. The can make recommendations for people to cut it. I had Burns on 441 cut and install mine.

We used Ultimate Granite on Rolling Acres last year. We very happy with their work. We shopped a half dozen granite yards including a trip to Ocala.
Besides Ultimate Granite, Stone Rise has an office/showroom on 44 west of Morse on the south side. Heather is very nice. They have a granite yard on 301 south of 44. There’s another show room/ yard, maybe 2 behind Russel Stovers on 44. Then there’s the kitchen remodeling show room in the strip mall
on 301 south of 466a. Some of these places use the same contractor to cut and install.
As far as granite or quartz. It’s mostly a matter of the look. Granite is a very irregular/nature designed pattern.
Quartz is an exact pattern. No variation.
Hope that helps. They advertise in the Daily Sun almost daily with sales.

We were looking for a countertop for our bathrooms.
There is a place on Rolling Acres Road almost across from the elementary school. They have full slabs but they have an outlet for part slabs located near by.
However, we bought a partial slab from a wonderful business on 441 (Fruitland, FL). It is set back a little off highway, I think on the East? Side of 441 and before the stop light/intersection. (The slabs were outside their wearhouse.)

They were great! Came to house to measure and had it installed wi a week. It was also a great price.

For those of you with the Gardenia...what are we talking about as far as price goes for installing granite or quartz in the kitchen and the two bathrooms?

I would say that your are talking about $6000 to replace granite with Quartz for kitchen & 2 bathrooms.

Ultimate Granite on Rolling Acres Rd has the largest selection, in fact many installers will send you there to pick out your stone. In the last couple of years they've had their own installation crews and the reviews have been very good.

Granite is priced according to the grade, #3 the best, then #2 and #1. Ultimate's has been advertising sales in the Sun for the past few months, get a higher grade for the price of a lower grade. I haven't shopped in about five years, but last time Granite was about $32 - $35 a SF installed with a standard edge for level #1, then graduated up to about $65 a SF for the level #3. The edge that you choice can add to the cost, quite a lot if it's fancy triple edge, a standard edge is normally free. So the costs is based on the square footage that you want done, the level of granite and the edge. Also you might want a new undermount sink, which some installers will stock or you can go to a home improvement store. Also with granite you can go with a fancier faucet, so those have to be considered in the price.

Whatever you do DO NOT use Wildwood Kitchen and Bath for anything. A lot of people, including myself, have had very bad experiences' there.

Try Classic Rock in Leesburg; they allow you to buy a slab from the warehouse on Rolling Acres rd and they cut/install. Most others have a surcharge, you pick out the slab and they pay the supplier.

I had an installer say he was redoing his kitchen and I asked if he was putting in quartz or granite. He said granite. I asked why and he said if you ever smelled them cutting quartz you would never put it in your home. Then I read this on NPR. While it pertains to quartz workers, it sure makes me wonder. We used Ultimate Granite. We liked their selection of granite and they provided excellent service for installation. Highly recommended!

Are you aware that granite emits radon? Lots of granite in NH and folks there know a bit about the stuff. It's ok outside for steps, but don't bring it into the house.

I had granite counter tops done by Ultimate Granite (Rolling Acres Rd) back in May. They were VERY easy to work with (Adam was our contact). No matter how many times I called, or how many questions I asked, I always got an appropriate and timely response. If no one was able to answer the phone I ALWAYS got a call back in a very short time. They never pushed me to buy. They have a fairly large selection of granite but not 10,000 different ones (maybe they have 10,000 pieces but that seems like a stretch). They did a quality job on the time schedule we agreed to.

I did not use the "contractor grade" faucets they had available choosing instead to get Kohler faucets from Lowes. I did use their kitchen sink which, so far, seems fine. I used their square bathroom sinks which are okay, but if I had it to do over again I'd get the Kohler sinks from Home Depot. No problem with them but the Ultimate Granite sinks have a steeper side and take a bit longer to fill. I think the curved side Kohlers look better anyway.

I didn't shop around since several friends had used them and were very pleased. However, pricing was very good and comparable to what I recently paid in WI after doing extensive price shopping there. What surprized me was doing granite with Ultimate was 1/2 the cost compared with a quote I received from Doc's Restoration for laminate tops.

I did not do the typical 4" back splash in the kitchen choosing instead to do tile. This is something you have to contract for on your own. It is a matter of personal preference but it is becoming more popular now and mine looks great.

Why do they call it a backsplash anyway? I never splash water on my countertops.

I just got a quote to cut down the two-tier peninsula in our Lantana kitchen to one counter-height level and replace the solid surface counters in the kitchen with Cambria quartz. Just under 10k.

YMMV.

If that is just for the kitchen, I hope you get another competitive quote.

It is just for the kitchen and I do plan to get another quote. The company that gave me the quote gets good reviews but is not the cheapest around, by their own admission.
