 Just looked in the 2020 Villages Phone Book Yellow pages...... PHYSICIANS goes from page 238 to page 282. :ohdear: Are you having problems with all of them? I had a problem with a doctor when I moved here..... FIRED him! Got one I'm crazy about and he has a great office staff too. :ho:

I've had a problem with two that the Villages Health recommended to me and hear from others about their problems. The most recent looked down my throat and said he could see my vocal cords with an abrasion and had me off to do tests costing me out of pocket over $400.00 and the Villages Health administration and Medical heads just look the other way and isn't doing a thing to help. No one with a tongue depressor and flashlight can see that far down someones throat.

My Villages Dr. usually just says hello shakes some Garlic at me has me take a swig of Love Potion #9 and I pay NOTHING! Each Dr says lose a couple of pounds too!
I am thrilled so far with every person except one in The Villages Health Care System. One is better than the next. I love them!
I hope things work out for you. I hope our resident Dr & Poster sees your troubles he can help you more specifically!
I'm sorry for your experience but don't give up finding the correct Doctor for you.

If you knew he was wrong, why did you have the tests done are you sure he said cords?

I think you have to be a little more specific. Are you saying healthcare around The Villages? Healthcare specific to The Villages Health? It's very different to many people.

There is a shortage of good quality doctors every where in Florida. It takes almost 3 months to get a first visit even with a bad doctor. Wait until healthcare is free for Illegals. It will be a 12 month wait to see an incompetent inexperienced doctor, unless you are an Elite and can pay cash for the best.

It seems to amaze me with some saying nope, but yet no one actually reccomended their doctor who they claim they have no problems with. Come on folks, throw some names of those good doctors you use and are happy with! LOL 😊

Ive only had a problem with one group of doctors. The others have been super. The one problem was immense. Still dealing with the results of their work . So, I its not all doctors, just 'some'. I learned to research their reputation first.

The people who had no problems with the healthcare in and around the Villages are very few if they are honest!!!
Many, many people have and had lots of problems with healthcare here. And also with the Hospitals around here.
We are here five years and had only one good on, unfortunately he retired! Now we have one you cannot talk really
talk to and he is out of the room before you know it. Some people are lucky or don’t asked any questions why or what!

My doctor may not be what you are looking for or get along with. As with everywhere else in the country, if you don't like, trust, and reslpect your doctor, get another one. I have a sports medicine/primary doctor and would not change. However, if I had cancer or needed brain surgery, I expect my doctor would recommend the best he knows in that field. Those who say the doctors here are not like my doctor back home, are living in the past or not looking hard enough.

Thanks folks and I have a hard time myself believing those people that say they haven't had a problem.
I had to have the tests because this doctor would not sign off and allow me to get the pre-op tests for a surgery I needed. The doctor said he worried about me being intubated for a new surgery and even told me that I could lose my voice if I didn't take care of the matter quickly. Then his office called for an ENT person and never followed through to make sure the appointment was confirmed and his staff would not tell me the new doctors name so I could call. I had to go to see someone in another part of the Villages health system in clinical support to find this all out.
The original doctor, the one I mention about the vocal cords WAS my GP at the time. He said if I didn't do what he wanted he was never going to sign off, and as my GP I had to get the okay and tests from him.
I brought the head of Clinical Administration and the Medical Director into this and all I got was they would handle the matter. I was never able to get what transpired and they haven't spoken to me since.
To me the Villages Health System is much like the Villages Hospital. One Star and getting worse.

Yes problems with Villages health care they seem overwhelmed with patients & prescribing the wrong Thing or not paying attention to your health concerns .

It seems that many employees in the health care area are not informed on the correct or latest information. The result is they just make a guess as to what the correct answer is. My wife asked for a referral the other day from colony, and the lady said call your insurance company. Duh- then she was rude because my wife said you do not get referrals from the insurance company, they must come from the primary care team, or doctor.

Don’t want to get into a long story but I had a terrible experience there, but there’s a lot of people that swear by TV hospital. Just getting out of the hospital after having a 5 way heart bypass & going there with a minor issue & during flu season you don’t leave them sit 4 1/2 hrs. before seeing them & charging them $400. plus dollars. But the CEO tore up the bill & couldn’t believe that they did that me. There’s a lot more to the story though.

My health insurance kicked in January 1, I had no insurance at all the month of December because we moved from Connecticut in November and I had to get a job to prove income, to be eligible for the ACA subsidy (too young for Medicare).
That was 4 days ago. Two days ago I made an appointment for my first visit with a doctor in Florida. My appointment is for January 24, and I was able to get this appointment with the first doctor I picked off the Florida Blue list. He's right across 441 from where I live, in the medical center next to the Regional Hospital. He's experienced, board certified, in a group practice with his wife and several other doctors, and has hospital privileges. So even if he's not available some day when I need a doctor, I can probably find a "squeeze-in" appointment with anyone in the practice in a pinch.
So as for speed, it was pretty darned quick. It's just normal insurance, Florida Blue (BCBS), co-pay is nominal, premium (for us) is nominal, and convenient to home.
I'll update with his name after the appointment, so I can recommend him (or not).

Jeanninern, I'm not at liberty to say his name from the Mulberry site because I am going into legal litigation with him and the Villages Network but I'll find out when I can.
From the sound of these responses it seems there are more people living in my shoes than those that do not feel there are any problems with the system here in the villages. As one put it there are pages of medical people to decide on out there, but try to find someone within the villages system as a GP that you can trust. Then try to communicate with those ancillary staff members. I'm not saying all because I have spoken with just a few that do try to help and actually follow thru on what they say.
Too bad we are not able to see where they graduated within their class. The Villages boasts of an amount of medical staff they provide for us. I'd like to see quality rather than the quantity they offer.

I was diagnosed with melanoma last year and it took me four weeks to get another appointment to see the doctor then referred north to Shands hospital. It took five more weeks to get an appointment there to see a surgeon and four more weeks before I could get the surgery !
when I lived up north in Ohio the day my results came back they shipped me off to Ohio State Medical hospital where I had the surgery the next morning . For matters such as this I have been shocked at the time it takes for a response for surgery.
so there’s the difference of caring or maybe I’ll care in a few months. I am not impressed. I am lucky The cancer did not Metastasize and I am alive to talk about it!
Yes, the quality of medical care here for the most part is very poor. Many doctors are not trained in the US, may or may not be board certified. It's dicey. Look your doctor up on HealthGrades or Vitals for information on him or her. If you have a problem getting a good diagnosis on something serious I would recommend going to Shands in Gainsville or some well trained physician in Orlando. As far as a hospital there is no way I would go to The Villages hospital or Leesburg. West Marion is probably the best that close by. Paramont urgent care on 441 is ok and the Ocala ER on 441 is pretty good - certainly better than the 8 hrs I have waited at the Villages Hospital ER.

My PCP is with The Villages Health (Pinellas) and she is excellent. She's from the Boston area. I have more than 10 friends who have a PCP at The Villages Health and all are extremely happy with their physicians. I'm not saying every Dr. at TVH is good, but my experience and my friend's experience has been very positive.

Well folks I just came back from a follow up visit at UNOVA on Rolling Acres Road from a rotator cuff operation. It was done by Issac Mitchell and he and everything was just great, but he has left that corp environment so I was assigned another doctor. After and hour and 1/2 waiting to be seen by this Dr. Thomas I walked out.
OhoioBuckeye, I have heard that story several times from others about the waiting at TV hospital during a cardiac episode. This is only one of the reasons they rank so low.
LIZ22, I would say Advent in Ocala off of 441 might be the best within this close area.

Im not saying they are dishonest. Maybe people are complacent with the system and just do not want to rock the boat so they allow what is done and said to them and decide that is best. I'm afraid as we get older we start sitting back and not wanting to cause problems

I've worked with healthcare professionals for 36 years. I am EXTREMELY picky about my PCP. I stay with UHC-Advantage insurance because I am so impressed with my PCP at The Villages Health.
You had a bad experience. But that doesn't mean the entire TVH system is bad. As I've said, I know many people who are very happy with their PCP at TVH. One person I know worked in a teaching hospital and she is very pleased with her TVH PCP.
I would never be complacent and if I felt I wasn't getting top notch care I would go elsewhere.

We have had our share of Medical disappoints in the Villages and promising good things.
In my opinion there is a lot of "keep them coming back for the money!" strategy! We had a
terrible mis diagnosis which had us go to Mayo who saved the life and we have been going to Mayo ever since as our major medical source. Use local Doctors as indicators. Good is that we saw the beginning of some serious improvements in the Village Hospital. Or course it is not at a rating of 4 or 5 but climbing the scale. Since Shands became involved the staff is much better. I understand they are using the Hospital to train nurses. Also heard that Interns may be coming to the Hospital. The ER had improved both in attention and care. The tools needed by the Staff are unfortunately scarce and that includes technology, equipment, supplies, etc. Hopefully all of this is indictive of a new era for The Village Hospital.
