In case anyone is wondering about "the letter"
To the Editor:
When we bought a home in Linden (Fenney for all those north of 44) the realtor said we should have full connectivity to Linden by January 2020. That was July 2019. In fact this article from The Villages Daily Sun states:
“One of the most important features to Villagers will be the connectivity linking the existing parts of the community with the newest areas. Three golf car bridges (one over the Florida Turnpike and two traversing State Road 44), as well as a network of tunnels, will allow Villagers golf car access to everything from the new amenities to golf, shopping and dining. Some of the tunnels will be completed by the fall, with the entire connectivity network operational by January 2020.”
This is laughable.
I have been here six months and they are nowhere close to meeting these goals. They haven’t even started the turnpike bridge pillars which will take months to cure.
Why the deception?
Is it to sell houses quickly? Probably. The Developer knew exactly how long it would take or at least a close estimate. Even if they started the turnpike abutments today it will be at least a year before it is usable. I get it things take time. Why not be honest and stop over promising and under delivering?
Its going to be 12-18 months before connectivity is in place, at least for us folks south of the turnpike.
I wish they would be honest.

When Gary Morse was running the Villages, NO houses were built until the amenities were in place and running. NOW I only see houses built, selling LONG before the pool, postal station or bridge is built. To me, the family is ONLY interested in building / selling houses ....

The lifestyle we bought into 16 years ago is what matters and in my opinion it is as good if not better than when our home was built in 2004......when Buena Vista went to the Arnold Palmer circle and there was no Arnold Palmer CC....there was no Lake Sumter Landing....no shopping centers in and around the Target store....no Kohls....no Home depot or anything near it.....
So yes, the lifestyle is better.
Not everything was airline like scheduled....but it all did come to pass.
In the current build scheme some instances the timing or understanding may be the culprit.
But like it did the past 16 years, it will all come together.

I really don't understand why people get upset over this. It seems that the people who bought those homes are ok with the rec centers coming later. And, of course, they did come. And more on on the way.

That is totally False. The neighborhood rec. centers with pools and postal stations have all been up and running before the homes were sold in all of the villages south of 44. There were less than 30 homes sold in Fenney when we bought and there was already a sports pool, neighborhood pool, mail station although there weren't enough of us to get the keys yet, the bocce and pickle ball courts, etc. were all open and before DeSoto, McClure, Linden, Monarch Grove, etc., were built they had their amenities in place also. The pools for DeLuna and Chitty Chatty are well underway and they have yet to build a house in either village.

Thanks for posting, while TommyT was being negative (don't know why he said he wasn't) it made me go to motive. Your post clarified what actually is going on down there. We live just above 44 and drive down once and awhile and have always explored the amenities that were being built long before the houses. The only thing that we have seen change is that when we purchased the houses did not go on the market until the neighborhood was completed. They don't seem to do that anymore and evidently not a big deal for those that purchase. This is still the best place to live

"They haven’t even started the turnpike bridge pillars which will take months to cure." Hyperbole??? This has to be the first time I have ever heard of technology regressing so far. Fifty years ago when I was working my way through college in a civil engineering test lab concrete was curing to meet and usually significantly exceed design strength in 28 days. Occasionally we would test a sample at 45 days but they only should a marginal increase in strength over the 28 day test.

So basically because you can't jump in a golf cart and go everywhere, your're upset. Nothing wrong with an air conditioned car with a radio. I don't see the big deal about a cart. It's a toy, if I'm not playing golf, my cart sits in the garage. I guess some people need to be amused. I've been heere 9 years and did something today I have done in 5 years, drive my cart to Lopez to play golf, took 40 minutes. It wasn't all that much fun, but to play you need a cart, I would of rather drove my car.

"...To play you need a cart....", I've heard this sentiment often used here in TV. Well, I'm sure that is true for some folks, as they are not physically able to walk that distance. I'm from Pa., usually I walk, and there are many senior golfers up in Pa. that walk almost every day, and we don't slow thing down either. Down here in TV it is rare to see walkers. It's great exercise. And yes, this is on a regulation size 18 hole course. I don't see many walkers down here and, IMHO, those that can walk should consider doing so, especially on the executive courses. As I said, that is only my humble opinion.

That's why I said it was something I hadn't done in 5 years, because normally I do drive my car and rent a cart. My neighbor and I just wanted to try something different. I was surprised it only took 40 minutes from Tamarind Grove to Lopez, I was thinking closer to an hour and my cart has not been sped up. We normally don't even play Lopez because we have one fellow in our group who lives in Labelle, but it's $5 cheaper with the new winter rates over the southern courses, so we gave it a shot. We'll probably play it more often.

We just bought in Linden and were told "sometime this year". I can understand how Alan is disappointed....but it's kinda like any type of sales, they are probably going to lean pretty hard on the upside and maybe gloss over the downside. Big construction plus (I'm guessing) plenty of red tape can lead to unexpected delays, unfortunately it's just a fact of life sometimes.
The bridges will be here soon, until then, as already mentioned, it's a pretty easy drive :)

The infrastructure implementation hasn't changed.
I believe what people have concluded is there are homes being built and there are rec centers under construction as well.....but not related to the completed homes/village or neighborhood.
Why would they change their proven process time and time again, over many, many, MANY years and thousands of homes built.....until now?

The pools, mailboxes, Rex centers, can be seen as the dirt is moved around for homes sites. Regional center come as homes are being completed. Retailers arrive when there is enough residents to shop their. Nothing has changed. But if you were involved with the Morse family, maybe you could give some insight on what’s coming, then the rumors could be confirmed.

Someone told me the state is thinking of making the turnpike 6 lanes. So holding off on the permit for the bridge. This could be bogus, don't know. But no information from the builder leads me to believe something isn't going right.

Online news had an article about road improvements and had an attachment with all of the road projects. A few of the projects is widening the turnpike from 4 to 6 lanes from 301 to 470. So, that could be a big issue if the developer bridge isn’t long enough to cover all 6 lanes.

The possibility of widening the area where the bridge was to be built would have most certainly come up during the planning/approval process...somehow!!!Typically, widening from 4 to 6 lanes is done by adding a left lane in each direction. This is the current median which is already owned by the highway authority. This would not affect the length of the span that the bridge will cross over. but it might delay the permitting process.

Probably because the complainers are mad that they (the complainers) can't build a future for their heirs like the Developer is doing for their future generations.
As long as the Developers keep the infrastructure upgraded for all the previous Villages built, they can keep building as long as they want.
The complainers must really have a miserable life to have moved to an area where the biggest percentage of the us are "living the dream" and they (again, the complainers) sit around wondering what they can complain about today, tomorrow and everyday thereafter.
The bridges are going to get built; the Developers are waiting on FDOT approval to proceed.

I doubt that they'd be building houses if there was no demand for them. Almost all of the houses that they've built south of 44 have sold.
It's also a bit unfair to say that they haven't built any amenities down there. There are several golf courses and at least two rec centers. And I understand that a fourth town square is being built.
People still have the option of coming to the rest of The Villages by car. It's not as though a wall has been built around the newest villages.

Nothing wrong with an air conditioned car with a radio. I don't see the big deal about a cart. It's a toy, if I'm not playing golf, my cart sits in the garage. I guess some people need to be amused. No, there is nothing "wrong" with an A/C car but I think the rest of your post is a bit arrogant. Evidently there are many more golf carts than golfers which indicates many people remain "amused" with their "toys.". To some the GC is a 2nd car, to some their only means of transportation and to many just a part of the fun of enjoying the "villages lifestyle" or why else are there signs all over saying "Welcome to The Villages, a golf cart community." It's great your happy driving your gas guzzler but to some the GC is part of the fun here. No, I don't play golf. :boxing2:
(Note: I do NOT live south of 44 but just enjoy my toy golf cart but do understand the frustration of those who live SO44 especially when they were "promised" otherwise).

If you purchased your Golf cart from The Villages Golf Cars, they will loan you a golf cart anytime you plan on being in an area not connected to your neighborhood. The Villages Golf Cars - Yamaha Golf Cars - Club Car Golf Cars | The Villages Golf Cars (https://www.thevillagesgolfcars.com/)
I know that doesn’t fix the connectivity issue but it helps.

For a lot of the retired masses here, they don’t know what waiting is; they want instant gratification.
The retired masses know what waiting is. They waited a long time to get here.

And some may be pushing up daisies before their wait ends. :D "Wait long enough and you will have it" is a VERY relative statement when you're in your 70's.

Sorry about the placement of this post but not quite sure how this chat app works.
I see no information about widening the Tollway near 301 at the Florida Turnpike Authority site. Here is the link. Maybe someone else can see what I don't there:

Very well said.
As a non golfer the GC is great for just enjoying TV and going to the town centers to enjoy the bands, shoping, dinner, and having fun being amused with my GC is a big part of TV lifestyle for us and many others.
Were in process of having houst built in Monarch Grove and with no town center south of 44 the connection to TV north of 44 (Brownwood) was a big issue for us and I am sure many others.
Everything takes time and the bridges will be built but streatching the truth in compleation dates is a bit much to boost sales.

I think the initial post was an attempt to information gathering. (It would appear the “complaining” is coming from the people that don’t live down here. We were told When we were just looking there would be a 4th town square and connectivity. From that expectations are formed. Just prior to closing we were told no, they want to go to smaller gatherings not a town square and not sure on the bridge. This isn’t our 1st home in the Villages. The life style is what we’re all willing to pay for. Without that connection/amenities there isn’t that same sense of community down here that is enjoyed north of 44.
If there are going to be delays, that happens. But transparency and communication seems to be an easy fix.

The fourth town square will be near the corner of RT 470 and the west side of the Turnpike.
That's where all of the commercial activity will be.
I had this map saved but sometimes it won't open.

Since you’re privy to inside information, where is the fourth town square being built?

I live in Fenney it’s my 5th new home in villages . One person was mistaken , when I moved to first home in Springdale they were still building on my street and quite frankly bridge or no bridge I’m not driving a golf cart to Brownwood and many others feel the same way out here. FYI the family doesn’t owe me anything except what I paid for and I’ve always been happy with everything they have done

No, the next beautiful town center will be south of 470 about halfway between the Turnpike and the intersection with CR510.
As you drive along 470, look at all of that gorgeous land to the south. That is God's Country.

CR510 is nowhere near 470.

I remember some weeks back an article in the Daily Sun about this area. They were planning for 1,000,000 sq ft of retail space. That is almost 23 acres.

I am curious what is going on to the East of the service plaza on the turnpike. Heading north on the turnpike yesterday as I approached the service plaza to the East there is an awful lot of dirt being moved in that area. Any ideas?

Old Villages motto was the field of dreams, if we build it, they will come. New motto is, if they come and buy the houses, we will eventually build it.
I can't blame the developers, why wouldn't they do that as long as people keep buying up all the new houses? Less financial risk for them.

That is the Village of Bradford, St. Katherine, Homestead, and work on a new championship course. There is also work on a new power substation going on and a radio tower for WVLG.

We have been by the Waterlily bridge many times over the past week or so, and they appear to be working on the bridge and driving the pylons for the foundation in to the ground. See attached pictures.

I moved to the villages for the lifestyle, I drive my golf cart anytime I go out and stay inside the bubble, I actually sold my Benz and Denali and went with our a Car for 7 months. I am sympathetic to the folks dealing with the bridge issue, my Village Realtor tried to get me to consider Fenney with the thought of the bridge being completed and access to the squares by cart in Jan 2020 I informed her if she bought it up again she was done. The old saying buyer beware of promises made by a salesperson should have been verified before signing a contract. False promises are made all the time and the Village realtors are well schooled on how to close the Fenney deals. If they by chance decide to bring a lawsuit against the developer I’m certain they would be able to find past agents to testify against the developer. In the meantime your right about them driving their car to the square but I don’t believe you will get to enjoy much of the village lifestyle that way. Greed has defined the way things are being developed here and that’ll never change. :coolsmiley:

Agree, never trust the sales people to be accurate.....also the mistake people make is that when they are told something by a salesperson they somehow extrapolate that to a promise. If it isn't in a contract it's only an opinion....how did we get this old and so naive? You came here for the lifestyle which was only made possible and available to you because of the developers "greed" (your opinion and so wrong) and I for one hope it continues.

Agree with the point, but in this case the agent was very likely speaking in good faith. The Villages was proudly and publicly touting the fact, and even had it printed on current maps, that the bridge was to be completed by January of 2020. It was not made up or hearsay or rumor. Obviously something happened to change that plan and my only gripe is with the lack of acknowledgement and transparency around the fact that it changed. Would it have changed my decision to buy in that area if I knew then what I know now - No. We like it here and are perfectly fine getting around by car until things are completed.
