I would like to hear from anyone who brings their car up north with them when they leave Florida....has anyone ever shipped their car? Used the car/train? Driving my car alone from Florida to New York seems like a tough trip - especially being alone. Any experiences would be appreciated. Renting a car when I get to NY is killing my saving account! Thanks!

When I go back to NJ from Florida, I usually drive. I dislike the drive very much, but if I am going to stay in Jersey any amount of time, I need wheels there. My advice is if u r alone, take a plane, it is the only way to fly. One boards the plane, reads part of a book and lands at Newark or Kennedy. No pain, no strain.

Check out Amtrak. We've used the AutoTrain a couple of times and while a bit boring it takes you out from behind the wheel and puts you in a lounge chair for the lion's share of the trip. It leaves from Sanford, Florida and ends at Lorton, Virginia at the north end. Lorton is just south of the DC ring road so you'll still have a drive of a few hours to NJ. Personally, I hate long distance driving so it worked for us. For more money you can get a room with beds on the AutoTrain so you can sleep overnight. We've never done that. The train leaves at around 4pm from each end and gets in (if you're not late) at about 9am if I recall correctly. I forget the fare but I'm sure Amtrak's website will have the info.

Do a Google search on "auto transport companies" Probably 750.00 each way.

Exotic Car Transport (based out of Orlando) just moved our car up. They were excellent! We used closed container but ask about open.
