Yesterday, we looked at lots on Dalecroft Trail in Buttonwood. These lots border County Route 121 and would be as far west as you could go in Buttonwood. Should we be concerned about being so close to the edge of The Villages? There are already several homes built there and just wondered if anyone had any thoughts about this area. We do like Buttonwood.

I assume you already know that there is a train track to the west of The Villages. We live in a western Village and it doesn't bother us a bit. Not a bit. But you might want to check it out.

Barefoot, no I didn't know there is a train close to it. Is there anything else that you know that we should beware of? We don't mind a train but if there are a lot of trains - that could be a problem. Thanks very much.

We have a lot on Harding Path at the back edge. We are probably 1 mile from the train tracks. I don't think it will be a big problem. Noise sometimes is good.... you know you are alive.

Can you tell me what time or times the trains run. Is it several times or just once a day? Thanks again.

Just back from 2 weeks on Harding Path and we heard a faint whistle in the afternoon several times, and nothing any other time. Whistle w2as soft and really kind of cool. Gave the area a country feel.

That soft whistle is the kind of sound that takes you back to a slower time... When we were there I never heard anything but then again I wasn't focused on that. Are you on Harding Path?

I love the sound on trains! I lived near railroad tracks at one time. When I moved, I really missed hearing the trains.

I know the trains are a big issue in Chatham -- while there has been some abatement because of new laws, the train whistles there are very loud. I live near Morse and 466 and I can occasionally hear a train. It is a distance away and truly lovely sound. However, I think if I lived closer, I might go quietly insane -- there are several trains daily and several whistles blowing.
That being said, I think I'd be a little hesitant living right next to Wildwood. There is a serious drug problem there (as well as a lot of really nice, good people) and TV really is perceived as having a lot of rich people living here. I think a lot would depend if TV built a separating wall at the end of TV's propewrty line. Regardless, I would definitely invest in an alarm system if I lived in that area of Buttonwood. However, I do believe that as TV develops in that direction, things will get better in Wildwood -- our police presence will see to that (plus the added revenue that will go to Wildwood).

Looking at the plat of Buttonwood there is a security wall planned for most of the area.

And I will have an alarm system. Their names are Maddie and Luke--- German Shepherds! And I have a concealed weapons permit in Virginia and will get one in FL.

Redwitch, thanks for your opinion. I, too, am concerned about the problem in Wildwood and being that close. However, the Dalecroft trail does have a charming country feeling. The trains do not bother me too much but the thought of having more crime in that area does. Another concern is how noisy the neighbors might be on the other side of the fence. Since they are not governed by The Villages rules, that could be a problem. Our realtor yesterday said there isn't any crime in The Villages. Since we aren't there yet, we don't know.

dpingram,
Just thought, if they do put a security wall around the edges of Buttonwood, wouldn't that make Buttonwood safer than the other neighborhoods in the Villages!

I would think so too. I'm not going to dwell on the fact that Buttonwood is near Wildwood. I think it is a beautiful location and once it is built up as the rest of TV there will be neighbors always looking out for one another. I think this area will be as safe as any other area of TV. The main roads through TV are public and free for "thugs and drugs" to ride through. There is no way to keep yourself completely isolated from criminal elements. Looking at the plat the wall appears to start behind lot 235 on Harding Path and continue around Dalecroft. I think there is a plat on line. If I find it I'll post a link.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about security. People do look out for each other in TV. I would be a bit concerned about being a ways away from golf cart shopping, at least until they build Brownwood.

My lot in Buttonwood is going to be much, much closer to LSL than Brownwood. If you look at the total (including Brownwood) TV map Buttonwood is central (when looking at north and south). A tad bit west but I still consider it central.

Logdog and dpingram - Thanks for easing some of my worrys. My husband likes the lot and agrees with you about the thugs driving through any neighborhood they want. I really appreciate everyone's feedback.

Unless there is direct ingress/ egress between Wildwood outside TV and Buttonwood, why would crime be more of a problem in Buttonwood than elsewhere in TV?

Are you on Harding Path?Yes I am, or at least my home is until we're there full time next year. Going by the PM you sent me a couple of months ago, I'm about 4 houses up the street from you in an all white At Ease. As far as being close to Wildwood, after looking at maps, Buttonwood is no closer to Wildwood than St. James and maybe even Duval. Some of my new friends that we met at the Buttonwood pool live right on that border fence and have met their non-villager neighbors and think they are nice people. One of these neighbors, so I'm told, is a villages real estate salesperson and invited them over for a party. They told me that her home is spectacular. What I'm trying to say is that, if you take a look at these homes, they are not exactly shacks and are in a rural area. And if Wildwood is as crime ridden as some may think, these "thugs" probably have cars or trucks and can get around TV pretty easily. Oh, by the way, we also heard the whistle in front of Seabreeze.

That's right I did and now I remember. My mind sort of goes during the summer months. My cousin (who lives in Virginia Trace) said they have started building on the lot directly to the right of our lot. I am sure that we will be the last ones to build in that area. But I know it will happen. I have to be patient. Perhaps we will become residents (full time) at the same time.
