I think that might be a guy suitor, rather than a baby.

I saw the picture and thought it was the size of a softball

This looks like it here...

From the article:

Fun facts
- female can capture prey up to 2 times her own size

If I was the male (and half her size) I would sleep with one eye open :)

Wow. That is an amazing photo. Pooh you are a good girl. jdsl1998, thanks for sharing. That little spider is identical, even on the legs, in color to the big one.

What a beautiful spider! And it eats grasshoppers (guess who has a phobia about jumping insects?). This is my kinda gal!

Oh RED....beautiful is not a modifier for spider any more than it is for snake.

We had the same species spider outside a window a couple of years ago. I too thought her beautiful and snapped photos.

I named our spider Ugabee. The reason: GA football.

See, UGA's colors (the Uga part of her name) are black and white. GA Tech's mascot is the yellow and black Yellow Jacket, hence the "bees" portion of our spider's name.

Here are photos of Ugabee:

GG, I do know what you mean. But...

See her anew through lens serene
Sitting, non-threateningly, on your screen
Not a creature of foreboding
But a spinner, red and golden
Look again and try to see
Beyond your fears-- her majesty!

This spiders body is a good two inches without the legs. I too have a phobia with the grasshopper. One jumped down my shirt while I was at bat in second grade....never forgot (or forgiven) that one! SO, I guess we'll keep her!

You impress the puddin' outta me, P. Your mom sure didn't have any dumb kids. AND your poem ALMOST made me change my mind about spiders.

Silly me.....I was expecting a kitty!

Thought I would read one last thread and it turned out to be a "horror" show!

This thread should have come with a R-rating!!! lol

Darn, now I gotta sleep with a can of Raid next to my bed!

When I posted the above remarks I thought I was in the "Pet Forum" and was taken aback by photos of spiders. (It was late and I was not paying attention to that fact). Today I realized I was posting in the Picture Forum..... so I want to compliment the photographers on their excellent photography skills.....even though I don't like spiders!!!

The larger spider is the female which often eats the male(s) after mating.

Believe it or not, it's called a Garden Spider. Here's what one looks like in the spider book. Look familiar?

The Garden Spider is not aggressive and they are not poisonous to humans.
