I was told by my eye Dr, I have cataracts. I do trust him but I would like to get a second opinion. I read here a little while back of some recommendations people had posted of the Dr.'s they had seen. I live in the Spanish Springs area. Would like to stay close to this area. Any suggestions? Thank-You

We've used Ocala Eye and they're good with what they do but I recently changed to St. Luke's because they're connected with TVHC and I want ALL my records in one portal for my providers. Just had my 1st visit there and I can't tell you how impressed I was. I was in and out in a bit over an hour and Dr. Mequio has great referances (google his name)!

I use Lake Eye and they have an office right there in the Sharon Morse building. I use Dr Vocci as my eye doctor and had doctor Holman do my cataract surgery. The three doctors they have who do cataract surgery are all excellent. The one who has done the fewest has done over 12,000 and Holman has done about 20,000.

I've been using Ocala Eye (352-430-3356) in the Laurel Manor professional center across from Laurel Manor rec center for the past 8 years. Ocala eye has complimentary round-trip transportation service from your house to their surgical center in Ocala on the day of cataract surgery. All other appointments, including follow-ups, can be done at Ocala Eye at the Laurel Manor facility. I consider the staff at Ocala Eye to be superb.

Truth is obscure when lies are spread. John McCain released the phony Dossier.

Mid Florida seemed honest and good to me. They confirmed what I already knew that I had a cataract in one eye but they said it would be about 10 years before I need to take any action.

Cataracts are a common result of aging and occur frequently in older people. About one in five adults over the age of 65 has a cataract.

Wish I had known that. Had cataract surgery by a Ocala and had to make 7-8 trips to a Ocala to at least 4 of their facilities. STAY LOCAL!!

that is bad information. to say nothing needs to be done for 10 years is ridiculous. Even stupid.

Actually, most cataracts develop slowly and they can see them long before they truly need to be removed.

I was told the same thing, but when I went to an eye specialist & he did say it was nothing to worry about. But I did think cataracts were to be taken care of right away no matter how minor they are, because they can keep them from getting worse with medication but can't clear up cataracts. So far I haven't done nothing! Don't know enough about them to worry about them.

Anyone receiving their medical care from the VA, they will remove cataracts at VA Hospital in Gainesville at no cost. I had mine done in 2014, it's just over an hour away via I-75. After the eye doctor at Mullberry VA Clinic recommends you, then go to Gainesville and see the surgeon. If he approves the surgery, it will take two trips. Each eye is done about two weeks apart.

We see Dr. Jodie Armstrong at Ocala Eye. Lovely large office at Laurel Manor Plaza just off 466.

In general you should have your cataracts removed when you feel they interfere with your vision. I know people who have them and each year(s) they get an eye exam and an update on the cataract. No vision problem so no surgery. If you have other vision problems investigate getting lenses implanted when you do have the cataract surgery.

I had mine done before moving here, but I cannot count how many rave reviews I have heard time and again, year after year, for this outstanding practice! Their cataract surgery is consistently flawless. If I were doing mine today, this would be a no brainer. I’m sure others are good, but why go for ‘good’ when ‘great’ is available right here in TV?!

This is what I hear time and time again. People are content (or maybe not quite content...) with the care they’ve received—until they’ve gone to St Luke’s—and they never went back to where they had been receiving their care before. I’ve been told to check them out—and I pass the same message on....

St Luke;s reminds me of many of the dentist comments. A 2 hour ordeal by disinterested robots .. passed from one station to the next. an eye exam that resulted in an inferior prescription, and finally a 2 minutes consultation with the "real" doctor who gave no eye contact and a rushed diagnosis. I plan to try Lange next.

I find this post interesting because people only have cataract surgery once. I can't say enough about the team of ophthomologists at Ocala Eye. They have retina, glaucoma, cataract and even eyelid growth specialists. Dr. Jodie Armstrong has an impressive curriculum vitae and is very patient and kind as well. I have heard good things about Dr. Ireland from my friends too.

I was scared to death to have someone touch my eyes with a wicked instrument and only be "not quite asleep". It couldn't have gone easier, not one scary moment or tiny bit of pain. Hope you all find the right doctor.

My wife has been going to Lange for 8+ years. She started with Dr. Ramsey who she liked, but he left after five years. She then had Dr. Lange but without explanation she's had woman doctor for the past year. Recently we tried to get a refill of her eye drops, I emailed the website and said I wanted it called into Walgreens at Pinellas Plaza. It never showed up and I emailed Lange and they said they called it in. Finally after 5 days Walmart on 466 said they a prescription for 5 days there. My wife has made an appointment with another office.
