Went by there earlier and saw all tables , etc. that are normallt outside gone and a sign in the window that stated they were closed. Restaurants in TV is a tough business to be in. It only takes a few bad incidents and tyhe word of mouth just clobbers you. Good luck to the owners and those who invested in the BCG.

So sad, at one time, they were the hottest nightspot in town. We had a huge crowd and had music until 1am every night. I wonder why it went downhill so fast. All of us regulars are so upset about its closing. It is a tough business to be in for sure.

Since the beginning no eating extablishment has been successful at that location, yet it is golf cart accessible.(the big plus offered by Village Commercial Property group.)

I wonder why that is? The location is great.
Hubby and I used to eat at Big City Grill up near Wal-Mart on 466. After a while, the food wasn't quite as good as it was when the place was new. We stopped eating there, but were happy to see it was establishing in Spanish Springs. Never did eat at the SS location so I don't know if the food was good or not so good. Still, it's sad to see restaurants that were initially successful, close.

When we've come down, we've talked about going to Big City Grill in Spanish Springs, but never seemed to make it. I guess that makes us part of the problem. Sad to see them go.

This is the third location this owner has closed / walked away from in TV.

It was a pleasant enough place and, if the weather was nice, a nice place to sit and enjoy a light meal and watch the goings on at the square, but let's face it, the food was pretty mediocre. If they had those really good snappy franks that you can get in Chicago or New Jersey and superior sandwiches, I think they would have done much better.

:agree: I agree, and I think he actually walked away from the Spanish Springs location when he opened it up... if you get my drift. The entertainment at night was the big draw (and only draw) and once he decided to **** off the entertainers, it just declined rapidly. I once thought of buying the place because the location is perfect, right next door to KB's and in the square. Couldn't be better, how the heck can you blow that??? How about, no interest and poor management???? Not to mention, bad food!!! :cus:
Not to mention, bad food!!!
It was bad on 466, it got worse at Spanish Springs. The owner ran Johnny Rockets down too.
Skip...

Big City and Johnny Rockets have/had the worst food in TV.

Big City Grill had the concept of an Italian Sausage and Italian Beef down as good as I have had in The Villages. However, their hot dogs and pizza were second rate. Not a bad gyros though. I'll miss them.

Agree with the pizza being second rate as well as the hot dogs. The Italian Sausage and Italian Beef were much better. Never had the gyros though.
Cannot say that I will miss them though with so many other choices available in or near the Villages.

try the gyros at Taki's on the other side of 27/441. Not too bad.

Don't forget that both Portillo's and Malnati's can be shipped to The Villages quite easily. Order today, here tomorrow.

We went to Big City Grill in SS one time and swore we would never return. Terrible.

Got a sausage Malnati's in the freezer right now (but not for long). Did not know about ordering Portillos or Aurelio's. Good to know. On a more somber note, there is now another empty storefront in Spanish Springs square. As we all know, there is not much more of a negative image than shuttered businesses in a "downtown" area. Let's hope that the Big City Grill site doesn't stay closed like Bourbon Street has been for over the two years that I know about.

Now I don't feel bad that we never made it there. From the other posts, it sounds like we would have gone only once. :)

You and Mallory are making me hungry. We have a Portillos and Aurelio's (Giordano's too) a short drive away. Might have to hit one of them for dinner tomorrow. No Malnati's nearby though.

The wife is from New York and couldn't wait till we went to the 466 spot. Once there, we couldn't wait to leave. 1) wouldn't accept credit cards, 2) no plates on which to put your "food", 3) food was poor quality for a spot that was hyped as being so great.
Went once and never went again.
Wifey keeps telling "Joey" at Caravelli's (deli/restaurant) in Oviedo they need to grab a spot in the Villages. Now there is some good Italian food.
But he wants his own place not someplace he has to rent up here.
They make a cheese and bacon quiche' to die for!!

Actually, I went there and the store they had on 466, many times in hopes that they would get the hang of making an Italian Beef Sandwich - they were sort of close; maybe a 3 on a scale of 10. Their pizza was the pits.
The only place I know of that you can get a Chicago Italian Beef Sandwich is in Chicago - all over the place.
When my brother and his wife (from the Chgo South Burbs) came down in March they brought Italian Beef and fixings for a big feast for all the family in TV (Uncle & Aunt, other Bro and wife, me and wife, and our daughter and her family from Deland).
