I'm a little confused about the golf situation. My understanding is that there are a number of regular courses that require a greens fee and a lot of executive courses that are free.
Are there leagues, tournaments and other planned events? I'm recently widowed and, although I play in a ladies league, I miss having a mixed group to play and socialize with. Moving to TV is a big step for me and I'm hoping that playing golf will give me a good opportunity to meet people.

Hi Taylor,
TV has nine championship courses and 27, nine-hole executive courses. You are correct that the championship courses requare a green fee and the executive courses do not.
There are leagues; however, to join a league you must have a "golf membership". Different membership levels include different privledges and green fee schedules.
Here is the list of memberships:
http://www.thevillages.com/golf/championship/enhancements-listing.htm
(You might have to copy and paste this into your browser)
However, you do not need a golf membership to meet people who play golf. Or even meet people directly on the golf course! You also can sign up to play golf with a friend or by yourself and be put with other golfers. Before you know it, you'll form your own group to golf with.
Come down for a Lifestyle Tour and see for yourself. You would not believe how easy it is to meet people and make friends in TV. That's just how we are in "Florida's friendliest home town".
p.s., I'm not in TV full time. However, let us know if you decide to come down. If I'm in town, I'll be happy to golf with you.

Actually www.golfthevillages.com is the best source for info. May have to cut and paste or retype the web address. A lot of information and click on Executive and Championship headers for info about each.
It also has phone numbers for more information. Good luck........

If you are over 70, you can sign up for the Super Seniors. They play 3 Fridays a month, not often, but it is a start. You don't have to have a golf membership-you only pay the cart fee. They play best ball.

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked out the website - it displayed an amazing number of events, but they all appear to be couples and you have to sign up as a team. I'm running into the same problem at the club I currently belong to - I'm having trouble finding a partner for the mixed events. Do you know if the pro shop will make an effort to put together a team?

When you sign up...usually ahead, to play an executive course you will be placed with three other people.
My husband will go out in the summer alone and play nine and will be paired with three others. He meets a lot of nice people.

If you are interested there are 3 or 4 singles groups that you could join in The Villages. One of them is a Singles Golf group and if you look at page 45 in the link below you can see their weekly info. http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/app/files/recnews.pdf

Every Wed. there are ladies 9 and 18 hole events on championship and executive courses. Check the web site again under the championship and/or executive headers (click on each). Believe they both mention these events. Also I encourage to call the info number listed. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. That's where I started in my info search. Hope this helps...........

People on the 5 streets in our section of our village have a few golf groups. One group is made up of members of our social club. It's couples golf, but you don't have to be part of a couple to play. Each team consists of a male and a female. We also have groups of women that play together one day a week and a group of men that also play one or two times each week. If there is any type of social group formed in your area, join and see if they have golf events. You'll get to meet new friends...that's a good thing.. :)
