I have been getting more and more questions in the pharmacy from older men (I guess that now includes me) about testosterone replacement. People have been reading books and seeing ads about "Low T". While Testosterone replacement might help improve sexual function, bone density, strength and energy, there is no assurance that it is safe for older men. One concern is whether or not it increases the risk for prostate cancer. So, testosterone replacement therapy should not be used as a "fountain of youth".
However, if you suffer from low testosterone levels and significant symptoms such as decreased libido and sexual function or decreased strength then talk to your doctor. Testosterone therapy comes in many forms, but the ones that seem to be most popular are patches or gel.
